Excavator Operator – Coffee Creek Mine

Pelly Construction is seeking experienced Excavator Operators to join our team at the Coffee Creek Mine Project in Yukon.

Coffee Creek is a remote fly-in project located approximately 130 km south of Dawson City, with no road access to site. Operators will be working in challenging terrain supporting mine development, road construction and exploration activities.

The Role

As an Excavator Operator, you will safely operate heavy equipment to support road building, bulk earthworks and mine development activities.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Excavating, ripping, digging and moving rock and earth
  • Building roads and cutting roads along slopes
  • Working on steep grades and challenging terrain
  • Reading stakes and working to required grades and design elevations
  • Building and shaping fill slopes, cut slopes and designed ditches
  • Loading and spotting haul trucks
  • Working in changing ground conditions, including permafrost
  • Completing daily equipment inspections and reporting maintenance concerns
  • Performing basic equipment care, including cleaning and greasing
  • Working closely with Foremen, Superintendents and other operators to safely complete project work

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of excavator/heavy equipment operating experience, preferably in mining, road construction or bulk earthworks
  • Demonstrated experience working on steep grades and challenging terrain
  • Experience with road construction and mine development
  • Strong understanding of grades, slopes, stakes and earthmoving operations
  • Ability to read engineered drawings, grade stakes, surveys and site plans
  • GPS experience is considered an asset
  • Strong safety awareness and commitment to safe work practices
  • Reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a crew
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Comfortable working 12-hour shifts on a 3 weeks in / 1 week out rotation in a remote camp environment

Working at Coffee Creek

  • Remote fly-in camp environment
  • 3 weeks in / 1 week out rotation
  • 12-hour shifts, days or nights depending on project requirements
  • Camp accommodations provided
  • Transportation to Whitehorse and charter flights to site provided
  • Candidates must be able to safely perform the physical requirements of the position and work outdoors in varying weather and ground conditions
  • Fit for Duty pre-employment testing, including drug and alcohol screening, may be required
