Full job description

Position Summary:

The English Tutor will provide academic support to Indigenous learners, helping them achieve their educational goals through culturally respectful and individualized instruction in English. The tutor will support students in developing their reading, writing, and comprehension skills in alignment with NEC’s commitment to diversity and inclusive learning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  • At least 1-2 years of tutoring or teaching experience, preferably with Indigenous learners.
  • Experience in developing and delivering individualized learning plans.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and educational barriers.
  • Strong understanding of English language teaching techniques and learning strategies.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to the unique needs of Indigenous students.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse learners.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to students in a culturally appropriate manner.

Terms:

Appointment to this casual position will require a formal criminal record check, the details of which may preclude finalizing an offer of employment. Preference will be given to qualified Indigenous applicants.

Hours: Monday to Friday: 20 hours/week

Salary: $35.00/hour
