Full job description

The Peace River School Division is seeking applications for a Full-Time (1.0f.t.e.) Maintenance Repairman V - Journeyman Plumber/Gas Fitter "B" Class at our Central Operations Building in Grimshaw, Alberta. This position will commence as soon sd mutually agreed upon. This is a Union position under CUPE Employees, Local 4839 Peace River Support Staff.

Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Repairman V (Journeyman Plumber/Gas Fitter “B” Class) performs journeyman-level work in the design, installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing, heating, and drainage systems throughout division facilities. This position requires strong technical ability and experience with plumbing and gas systems, ensuring all work complies with applicable codes and safety standards. In addition to trade-specific responsibilities, the journeyman may perform or assist with general maintenance and repairman duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Skills and Qualifications


The Maintenance Repairman V - Journeyman Plumber/Gas Fitter “B” Class is a skilled tradesperson with proven expertise in plumbing, heating, and gas systems. They must demonstrate sound judgment, attention to detail, and strict adherence to safety, environmental, and building codes. A valid Alberta Journeyman Plumber certificate and Class “B” Gas Fitter certification are required, along with several years of related maintenance or construction experience.

Plumbing and Heating Maintenance


  • Installs, repairs, and maintains plumbing, heating, and drainage systems.


  • Maintains fixtures, appliances, and related mechanical systems.


  • Installs and repairs underground storm, sanitary, and water piping.


  • Assembles, installs, and tests valves, fittings, etc.


  • Installs and maintains water treatment systems, pumps, and controls.


  • Performs gas-fitting duties under Class “B” authorization, including installation and maintenance of gas appliances and heating systems.

Construction and Project Work

  • Participates in new construction, renovations, and system modifications.


  • Reads and interprets blueprints and specifications.


  • Determines materials, sequences, and methods of work to ensure safe and efficient completion.

  • Ensures all work meets or exceeds building, plumbing, and gas codes.


  • Assists with pricing, ordering, estimating, and project planning when required.


Maintenance and Facility Support


  • Performs or assists with general maintenance and repairman duties across division facilities as assigned.

  • Supports other trades and contractors as required.


  • Maintains preventative maintenance records and documentation.


Health, Safety, and Compliance


  • Follows all division and Alberta OHS safety standards.


  • Reports and documents incidents, hazards, and near misses promptly.


  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized worksite.


  • Ensures installations and repairs meet environmental and safety regulations.


Teamwork and Administration


  • Provides guidance to apprentices or casual staff.


  • Completes daily labor and materials reports accurately.


  • Requests time off and reports absences according to division policy.


  • Follows all PRSD policies and procedures while promoting a positive work environment.


Other


  • Responds to emergencies and urgent maintenance requests as required.


  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.



Requirements:

  • Provide an acceptable current Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check (dated within six (6) months of application).

Rate of Pay: dependent on certification and years of experience and will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the CUPE Local 4839 and the Peace River School Division.
