  • Overview
  • Sanctuary House is seeking a passionate, energetic, and motivated Child & Youth Worker to join our team. This position plays a vital role in supporting children and youth impacted by family violence, trauma, homelessness, and other life challenges through individual support, group programming, school-based initiatives, and community outreach.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is creative, organized, and able to work independently while developing meaningful programs and connections within our community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate programs for children and youth within the shelter and community.
  • Provide individual support, mentorship, advocacy, and skill development opportunities for children and youth.
  • Plan and facilitate educational, recreational, and therapeutic group activities.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with local schools, community organizations, and service providers.
  • Deliver school-based programming and community outreach initiatives.
  • Support children and youth impacted by family violence, trauma, mental health concerns, and other life challenges.
  • Assist with program development, reporting requirements, and outcome tracking.
  • Participate in community events and awareness initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with shelter staff and community partners to support client needs.

Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE)

  • Education
  • Child and Youth Care
  • Certification or training related to child development or special needs support is a plus.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children and youth.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement programs and activities.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and client-centered approaches.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work effectively with community partners and schools.
  • Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the employer.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be a self-starter who is comfortable taking initiative, developing programs, building community partnerships, and working both independently and as part of a team. We are looking for someone who is creative, adaptable, compassionate, and passionate about supporting children and youth in our community.

Pay: $22.00-$25.00 per hour
