Job Description
The Driver provides safe and reliable transportation of agency clients, who are primarily seniors during the week, evenings and/or on weekends. The Driver will also assist with the delivery of Meals on Wheels, courier, or other driver services as required.
We are looking for: A Driver
Hours of Work: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 7:00am to 5:30pm. Evening shifts may be required (Up to four times per calendar year)
Location: Requires travel in the community
Reports to: Supervisor, Transportation and Community Programs
Compensation
Hiring Hourly Range: The hourly rate for this role is $19.44 per hour.
Circle of Care Benefits:
Health and Dental Benefits: A robust benefits plan with vision, massage and semi-private hospital coverage with employer paid premiums to support you through all stages of life. Eligible after 1,248 hours completed in a calendar year.
TFSA Matching Program: Upon completion of 12 months of service, employees will be eligible for the TFSA matching program (Full-time employees are eligible for an annual employer match of up to $450 and part-time employees are eligible for an annual employer match of up to $300).
Vacation: All employees shall be entitled to vacation time and vacation pay based on the length of continued service calculated on January 1 each year.
Float Day: Upon completion of one year of service, employees will be entitled to one annual float day in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

Responsibilities
Safe and timely transport of clients to and from their destinations
- On the day of scheduled service, follow the DriverMate application and/or printed manifest to accurately identify and transport assigned clients:
- Confirm client identity by asking and verifying two forms of identification: full name (first and last) and destination of drop-off.
- If client identity or trip details are unclear, contact the Transportation Office immediately for clarification before proceeding.
- Ensure all Adult Day Program (ADP) clients receive hand-to-hand drop-offs, meaning clients are safely transferred directly to a staff member or responsible party at their destination to ensure their safety.
- Transport clients according to the predetermined transportation schedule.
- Attend to clients’ needs while using the transportation service.
- When necessary, meet clients at the door and walk them to the van.
- Assist clients to enter and depart from the vehicle.
- Ensure that clients are seated properly and that seat belts are used.
- Assist with bags and carry-on items as required. This position may require you to lift a minimum of 15- 20lbs, potentially up to 8-9 hours per day.
- Report immediately to the Manager on all concerns, questions, or problems regarding the client, the schedule and/or the vehicle.
- Effectively meet all client services requirements in a courteous and professional manner.
- Proactively trouble shoot problems, deal with difficult situations, and escalate to Supervisor when extra assistance is required.
- Participate in client satisfaction initiatives that continuously improve quality levels.
- Keep the Supervisor informed of required maintenance and any damage done to the vehicle.
- Complete electronic vehicle inspection checklist before taking the vehicle out for the day, and complete inspection checklist at the end of the day.
- Maintain adequate gasoline in vehicle and follow procedures for gasoline credit card use.
- Identifying and reporting health and safety incidents and concerns in a timely manner to the appropriate supervisors and/or funders, documenting incidents in EasyCare and escalating appropriately to the designated supervisors as outlined in the Client Safety Reporting policy (C.01.38).
- Participating in health and safety processes and procedures.
- Participating in maintaining a safe workplace environment by cultivating a positive safety culture and encouraging best practices to promote both staff and client safety and well-being.
- Participating in all health and safety training initiatives on a regular basis.
- Taking proactive action against client incidents within your scope of practice.
- Developing a plan to identify, manage and/or minimize client safety risks or situations in adherence with risk management operations policies.
- Assessing the severity of an adverse client safety/risk event and determining the best follow-up and developing an action plan following the event. Collaborating with funder (ex. HCCSS) and following any additional processes as required.
- Calling emergency services (911) when the client is at an immediate risk of harming themselves or others, or if there is a serious injury and/or imminent harm.
- Evaluating any potential hazards and identifying clients at risk for adverse health and safety events, taking preventative measures when necessary to minimize reoccurrence.
- Reporting all safety events impacting clients, caregivers and families in a timely and honest disclosure.
- Must hold a valid G driver’s license with a driving record in good standing.
- 5+ years of driving experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to assist seniors with varying physical impairments.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to safely operate a passenger van.
- Demonstrated efforts to continuously update skills.
- Language skills are an asset (e.g. Russian, Yiddish, and Hebrew).
