Alora is a new and busy restaurant in the Byward Market serving elevated, refined comfort food. If you love good food, having fun at work, and can working hard to give our guests the best experience while being a part of something you can be proud of, we want you at Alora.

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Line Cook to join our kitchen team. The Line Cook will be responsible for preparing and executing dishes according to recipes and standards, ensuring that each plate is prepared with precision and care. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, possesses strong culinary skills, and is committed to delivering high-quality food consistently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook menu items following established recipes and presentation standards.
  • Set up and stock the kitchen stations with necessary supplies and ingredients prior to service.
  • Ensure food is cooked and plated to perfection, paying attention to portion sizes, presentation, and timing.
  • Collaborate with other kitchen staff to manage the flow of orders and maintain efficient service.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen stations, including cleaning equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  • Monitor and maintain food safety and sanitation standards, ensuring compliance with all health regulations.
  • Assist with inventory management, including checking the freshness and quality of ingredients and reporting any shortages.
  • Work with the Head Chef or Sous Chef to develop new menu items or improve existing dishes as needed.
  • Adapt to special dietary requirements and food allergies, ensuring that all meals are prepared safely and accurately.
  • Participate in end-of-shift duties, including cleaning and preparing for the next service.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Line Cook or in a similar role in a high-volume kitchen.
  • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high standard of food quality.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • A culinary degree or equivalent experience is preferred but not required.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in a high-heat environment.
