Position Overview

Mott 32 Toronto is seeking an experienced, passionate, and commercially driven General Manager to lead the restaurant’s overall operation.

The General Manager will be responsible for the restaurant’s financial performance, service standards, team development, guest satisfaction, sales growth, and day-to-day operations. This position requires a highly visible and hands-on leader who can inspire the team, build strong guest relationships, and consistently deliver an elevated dining experience.

The successful candidate will have strong experience managing a high-volume, premium or fine-dining restaurant and will demonstrate excellent leadership, business acumen, operational discipline, and attention to detail.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Team Development

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for all front-of-house restaurant operations.
  • Recruit, train, coach, motivate, and retain a high-performing hospitality team.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and hold managers and team members accountable.
  • Conduct regular management meetings, pre-shift briefings, performance evaluations, and coaching sessions.
  • Develop future leaders through structured training, mentorship, and succession planning.
  • Promote a professional, respectful, inclusive, and performance-driven workplace culture.
  • Work closely with the Executive Chef and culinary leadership to ensure strong collaboration between the front-of-house and back-of-house teams.

Guest Experience and Service Excellence

  • Maintain a visible presence on the restaurant floor and actively engage with guests throughout service.
  • Ensure that every guest receives attentive, personalized, and professional service consistent with Mott 32’s brand standards.
  • Build and maintain relationships with VIP guests, regular clientele, hotel guests, corporate partners, concierges, and the local community.
  • Respond to guest feedback and resolve concerns promptly, professionally, and with sound judgment.
  • Monitor service execution and continuously identify opportunities to improve the overall guest journey.
  • Maintain the highest standards of restaurant presentation, ambience, cleanliness, and attention to detail.

Operations Management

  • Oversee daily restaurant operations to ensure efficient, consistent, and profitable service.
  • Develop and maintain operating procedures, service standards, opening and closing procedures, and management controls.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing and scheduling based on forecasted business levels and labour targets.
  • Collaborate with the culinary, beverage, events, marketing, finance, and hotel teams to support restaurant objectives.
  • Oversee reservations, table management, private dining, large-party bookings, and special events.
  • Ensure all restaurant equipment, furniture, operating supplies, and guest areas are properly maintained.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable employment, health and safety, food safety, liquor licensing, and accessibility requirements.

Financial Performance and Business Development

  • Take ownership of the restaurant’s overall financial and operational performance.
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets, forecasts, labour plans, and operating expenses.
  • Review financial reports and key performance indicators, including revenue, labour cost, food cost, beverage cost, average guest spend, and profitability.
  • Implement effective cost controls while protecting product quality and the guest experience.
  • Identify opportunities to increase restaurant revenue, reservations, private dining, events, beverage sales, and guest frequency.
  • Work with the marketing and events teams to develop promotions, partnerships, and sales initiatives.
  • Monitor business trends, guest feedback, and competitor activity to support informed operational decisions.
  • Ensure accurate cash handling, inventory controls, purchasing procedures, and financial reporting.

Brand Standards and Partnerships

  • Serve as an ambassador for Mott 32 and represent the restaurant professionally within the Toronto hospitality community.
  • Ensure consistent execution of Mott 32’s global brand standards and service philosophy.
  • Maintain strong communication with ownership, senior leadership, brand representatives, and Shangri-La Toronto.
  • Support public relations, media events, influencer visits, community partnerships, and other brand-building initiatives.
  • Protect the reputation and positioning of Mott 32 as one of Toronto’s leading luxury dining destinations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a General Manager in a comparable premium, luxury, fine-dining, or high-volume restaurant.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a complex restaurant operation with significant food, beverage, private dining, and event business.
  • Strong knowledge of restaurant financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, profit and loss statements, labour management, cost controls, and inventory.
  • Proven ability to build, lead, develop, and retain high-performing hospitality teams.
  • Strong understanding of luxury service standards and personalized guest engagement.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain composed, decisive, and professional in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong business development mindset with the ability to build relationships and grow revenue.
  • Experience working with hotel operations, international restaurant brands, or luxury hospitality organizations is considered a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of wine, spirits, cocktails, and premium beverage service is an asset.
  • Familiarity with restaurant POS, reservation, scheduling, inventory, and reporting systems.
  • Smart Serve certification is required or must be obtained before commencing employment.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other periods required by restaurant operations.
