Job Summary

Sanctum Retreat is seeking a new member for our team. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring smooth kitchen operations, delivering exceptional food quality, and maintaining high standards of food safety. Your energy and attention to detail will help create a welcoming environment where attention to detail and hospitality cultivate a welcoming environment for guests. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your skills in food preparation, guest experience support, and logistics skills collaborating with a small team to create a caring community environment for guests.

Sanctum's Mission

Sanctum Retreat is a registered charity, operating west of Caroline, AB, since 2004. Situated next to the Raven River, surrounded by evergreen forest, Sanctum's environment provides a calm and grounding space for communities to come together for organized events. Sanctum hosts on group at a time, and each program is unique in its cadence, intention, and outcome. Events are always one group at a time, and frequently faith based, education space based, healthcare space based, or social service space based.

General Responsibilities for Kitchen and Operations Associate

  • Maintain a welcoming and hospitable environment for guests and team members
  • Demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing needs or priorities during retreats and between groups
  • Uphold high standards of cleanliness, safety, and efficiency throughout the facility
  • Use cleaning and maintenance supplies responsibly, following training and posted instructions
  • Report any safety hazards, needed repairs, or incidents promptly
  • Maintain professional boundaries with guests while offering assistance when needed

During a Retreat

  • Support meal preparation ensuring safety, quality, and timing standards are maintained
  • Complete kitchen checklist
  • Cleaning kitchen after meals
  • Restock snacks, coffee, hot water, teas
  • Maintain an organized fridge and freezer

During Deep Cleaning

  • Shampoo carpets
  • Clean ground level windows
  • Remove weeds from walkways
  • Wash walls
  • Remove Calcium build-up from surfaces
  • Follow checklists and schedules to track tasks and ensure consistency

Responsibilities

  • Prepare/assemble a variety of food items according to established recipes
  • Assist in cooking processes, including grilling, sautéing, baking, or other methods as required for menu items.
  • Serve customers efficiently through our buffet, answering questions about meal options, and ensuring a positive dining experience.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including proper food handling and sanitation procedures.
  • Support inventory management by rotating stock, monitoring supplies, and notifying supervisors of shortages or expired items.
  • Follow all food safety guidelines and health regulations diligently to ensure a safe environment for staff and guests.
  • Collaborate with team members to streamline operations during busy periods and uphold excellent service standards.

  • Knowledge of food handling safety practices and adherence to health regulations.
  • Ability to cook a variety of dishes with precision and consistency.
