Job Overview

We are seeking a vigilant and responsible Traffic Control Person to ensure the safety of roadways, and work zones. This role involves directing traffic, maintaining safety protocols, and assisting with construction activities as needed. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for safety, strong communication skills, and experience in construction or related fields. This position is vital for maintaining safe work environments and smooth traffic flow around active construction areas.

Responsibilities

  • Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic around construction zones or work sites to ensure safety for workers and the public
  • Set up and maintain signage, cones, barriers, and flagging devices in accordance with safety regulations
  • Communicate clearly with drivers, pedestrians, and team members using hand signals or radio communication
  • Assist with the operation of heavy equipment or paving activities when necessary
  • Monitor work zones for potential hazards or unsafe behaviors and report issues promptly
  • Follow all safety procedures and protocols to prevent accidents or injuries on site
  • Support construction crews by providing assistance with materials handling or site organization as needed

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in traffic control, or construction is preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment operation is a plus
  • Strong understanding of safety standards related to traffic control and construction zones
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to remain alert in high-stakes environments
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Valid certification for traffic control or flagging is advantageous but not mandatory; training can be provided if necessary
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting or moving barriers when required
