Veteran Family Navigator/Well Being Counsellor
Permanent Full-Time - Job Posting
The Halifax & Region Military Family Resource Centre (H&R MFRC) is a registered provincial charity governed by a board of directors. We provide programs and services to meet the needs of our military family community, assisting them as they navigate challenges of military life, such as relocation, transitions, and frequent separations related to deployment or training.
We are seeking a professional social worker who enjoys a diverse workload and a fast-paced environment. The Veteran Family Navigator/Well Being Counsellor understands the military and veteran family journey. They will develop and implement psychosocial services, provide navigational support, deliver programs, refer to community agencies, and provide crisis intervention support services from both the Shearwater and Windsor Park locations, as well as over the phone and online.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide internal and external referrals; warm handovers, and psychosocial support, in collaboration with CAF and community partners to ensure families receive the required support, avoiding duplication of effort.
· Provide short-term counselling (typically 1-8 sessions) in accordance with the H&R MFRC Mental Health & Well-Being Client Service Model.
· Provide outreach and engagement with CAF and Veteran family community, i.e. information sessions and briefings.
· Coordinate, implement, and facilitate approved national and local veteran family programs/services in accordance with the MFS-VFP Memorandum of Understanding.
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following:

· Superior verbal and written language and communication skills.
· Proficient knowledge of MS Office, including MS Teams and client service databases.
· Compassion and empathy.
· Conflict resolution skills; ability to de-escalate situations.
· Ability to collaborate, be flexible and responsive to a changing work environment with multiple departments.
· Ability to foster relationships with community agencies and resources.
· Knowledge of military life and the Canadian Armed Forces.
Conditions of Employment

- Willingness to work occaisional weekends and/or evenings.
- Child Abuse Registry, Criminal Records Check & Vulnerable Sector Check are required.
Education and Experience
· Must be registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Work.
· Must have a Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Social Work.
· Minimum 5 years' experience with crisis intervention, short-term counselling, and navigation support.
· Minimum 3 years' experience supporting clients with illness, injury, bereavement, and gender-based violence.
· Experience with group facilitation and program development.
Position: Permanent Full-Time | Hours: 35 hours per week
Anticipated Start Date: October 5, 2026
Salary: $65,000 - $69,000
