Job Description

Sunchild Child and Family Services is hiring a Manager of Protection Services. We require a highly motivated, visionary, team-oriented leader with a passion for First Nations children and families and a commitment to family preservation.

Reporting to the Director of Protection Services, the incumbent is responsible for the direct department team oversight, ongoing assessment of children, youth, and families, and strengthening of case planning to meet the child’s/youth’s/family’s unmet needs within specified timeframes and provincial standards. This role provides collaborative supervision with the caseworkers, caregiver team, and youth division to meet the community's needs effectively. This position engages and implements child/youth, family, and community supports and services to prevent or reduce risk to child/youth, promote permanency, and better outcomes for child/youth and families. The incumbent will empower the interdisciplinary team to ensure adherence to practice standards.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating case management plans, practice standards, social work code of ethics, program and company policies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • You will have a lead role, with minimal supervision, in managing complex cases such as joint police investigations involving physical and sexual abuse, or other complex child intervention cases.
  • Implements least intrusive practice intervention practices.
  • Upholds Sunchild cultural ideologies and philosophies for child protection
  • Identify case management needs in accordance with the Child Youth and Family Enhancement Act
  • Working with interdepartmental leadership
  • Report critical issues/items relating to staff and/or operations and service delivery.
  • Work with supervisors, management and practitioners to evaluate performance and recommend appropriate courses of action in accordance with HR policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and transfer knowledge and awareness of all current client self determined modalities and the continuous improvements of child protection
  • Assign and monitor work and ensure individual and group supervision

Qualifications

  • A degree in social work, child and youth care, psychology, social science, or other related fields is required
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
  • A minimum 3 years experience in delegated duties with the Ministry of Child and Family Services, social services field, with emphasis on partner relationships, municipal or non-profit management, risk assessment, governance, and partnership development
  • A solid understanding of the philosophy of prevention, protection and permanency and the ability to apply that understanding to families and communities.
  • Knowledge and experience in financial planning and reporting
  • Demonstrate the ability to relate effectively to people of diverse economic, social and Cultural backgrounds
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills enhanced organizational and advanced computer skills
  • Knowledge of issues and practices of CFS and the impact on children and families; services to children, family dynamics, and an understanding of trauma-informed practice
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, including Excel (spreadsheets and pivot tables), PowerPoint, database applications, e-mail, team meetings, and video conferencing.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work without direct supervision.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clean driver abstract.
  • Fluency in Cree and/or Saulteaux is an asset
  • Clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector and Intervention Record Check

Work Schedule:

This full-time, permanent position entails full-time Monday through Friday. On-call work is required.
