About VO2 Master

VO2 Master builds portable metabolic measurement systems used by coaches, researchers, and performance professionals. The product combines airflow sensing, oxygen and CO₂ measurement, and embedded systems to deliver accurate, real-world physiological data.

The company is scaling and leading in markets around the world. The next phase requires continued focus on product reliability, engineering quality, and disciplined delivery.

About the Role

Lead engineering execution, product reliability, and engineering quality. This is a hardware/firmware/software leadership role focused on delivering accurate, repeatable, and reliable products in real-world conditions.

You will lead a team of 5–10 engineers and be accountable for how engineering work is defined, proven, and delivered.

Team Leadership

1. Set clear expectations for ownership, documentation, and validation

2. Develop team capability and address gaps where required

3. Establish consistent standards for engineering work and reviews

4. Build accountability for delivering high-quality, production-ready results

Product Reliability & Measurement Integrity

1. Improve measurement accuracy, repeatability, and calibration stability

2. Ensure consistent product quality across operating ranges and real-world conditions

3. Establish validation across tidal volumes, ventilation rates, and use cases

4. Distinguish clearly between functional performance and validated measurement

5. Drive root-cause analysis and resolution

Engineering Execution

1. Deliver products from development through validated, production-ready release

2. Make explicit tradeoffs between accuracy, durability, cost, and timeline

3. Reduce risk through early validation and prototyping

4. Ensure readiness for real-world use, not just internal testing

5. Oversee a small software development group that builds the product software.

Engineering Practice & Discipline

1. Establish proof-driven development (research → prototype → validate → scale)

2. Require documented decisions (approach, assumptions, test methods)

3. Define requirements and link directly to design and test

4. Integrate testing into design

5. Establish consistent, repeatable engineering practices that drive quality outcomes

Engineering Validation Systems (Hardware/Firmware)

1. Define and test accuracy and repeatability against known references

2. Implement stable, reproducible calibration methods with drift management

3. Validate performance and quality across environmental and usage conditions

4. Separate verification (built correctly) from validation (measures correctly)

5. Establish failure analysis and corrective action loops

6. Ensure consistent product quality between development and production units

Use of AI in Engineering

1. Apply AI to accelerate research, design exploration, and tradeoff analysis

2. Use AI to improve test planning, scenario coverage, and analysis

3. Improve documentation and knowledge capture

Required Experience

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering

2. P.Eng. designation (or equivalent)

3. 10+ years of engineering experience

4. 5+ years in an engineering leadership role

5. Led development and successful release of at least 2 complex physical products used in market

6. Proven ability to improve team performance and engineering standards
