Full job description

The Designer owns Draft 2 — converting approved shop drawings and site-captured dimensions into fabrication-ready packages. Working under the Design Lead, the Designer takes site-dimension input, develops panel design to fabrication-ready detail, and produces fabrication tickets, framing and release packages, and material quantities. The role applies a working knowledge of the company's panelized cladding systems (Elemex & OP), documents site-driven design changes through RFIs, and coordinates closely with Coordinators, the dimensioning and site teams, and the Project Manager who outlines each deliverable.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Detailed Design & Site-Dimension Input

  • Officially initiate detailed design alongside Coordinators following the post-measuring handoff.
  • Take site-dimension input and review it against the approved design.
  • Convert approved drawings and site dimensions into fabrication-ready panel design, including veneer/material layout.
  • Request additional information from the Dimensioning and Site Installation teams as needed.
  • Create RFIs to document design changes or additions arising from site conditions; routed to the client through the PM, who explains cost and scheduling implications.

2. Fabrication & Release Packages

  • Create fabrication tickets; have them checked by a Coordinator or Senior Designer before release.
  • Produce the release package — fab tickets, install and highlighted drawings, flashing and miscellaneous install orders.
  • Create framing drawings and steel order forms as required.
  • Produce material quantities and takeoffs, including backup materials and parts for non-standard conditions.

3. Quality, Shipping & Closeout

  • Create packing lists and coordinate the packing plan with the Shop.
  • Support shipping inspection, QC inspection, and labeling.
  • Create as-builts at closeout (Drafting Supervisor accountable; Designer responsible for producing them).

4. Learning & Development

  • Build deeper knowledge of panelized cladding systems, materials, and fabrication methods.
  • Be consulted on material substitutions and difficult details, learning from the Design Lead's review.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and relevant 3D modeling tools for panel design.
  • Ability to interpret approved shop drawings and site-dimension scans and translate them into fabrication-ready detail.
  • Strong knowledge of panelized cladding systems, framing, flashing, and fabrication processes.
  • High accuracy in fabrication tickets, release packages, and material quantities.
  • Effective coordination with Coordinators, the dimensioning and site teams, and the Project Manager.
  • Ability to manage multiple release packages and deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a two-to-three-year college program in architectural technology or a related field.
  • Drafting and detailing experience with panelized facade or comparable fabrication-ready design is an asset.
  • Must have a minimum of one year experience in Facade Design.

Pay: $59,000.00-$64,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Company events
  • Dental care
  • Disability insurance
  • Extended health care
  • Life insurance
  • On-site parking
  • Paid time off
