Join Our Team
We are seeking a Marketing and Communications Specialist to join our Marketing and Communications team. This is a hands-on role for a strong communicator and creative practitioner who can translate strategic direction and organizational priorities into timely, high-quality, on-brand marketing and communications. The successful candidate will bring strong capabilities across content development, copywriting, graphic design, digital and social media, email marketing, web content, and campaign execution.
Working across multiple service areas and organizational priorities, the Specialist will provide end-to-end MarCom delivery for assigned portfolios. The role requires someone who can build a strong understanding of the programs and service areas they support, anticipate communications and promotional requirements, and translate established strategy into coordinated content, creative, digital, and campaign activity. The Specialist will exercise sound judgement and initiative in advancing work from planning through production and execution, while recognizing when consultation, approval, or escalation is required.
- Serve as the primary MarCom resource for assigned organizational portfolios, building collaborative relationships and a strong understanding of service-area priorities, audiences, programs, and upcoming activity.
- Proactively identify communications and promotional needs and opportunities, and develop coordinated approaches aligned with organizational priorities, established strategy, and brand standards.
- Plan and execute integrated MarCom activity across assigned portfolios, recommending appropriate channels, timing, content approaches, and creative requirements, and contributing to broader organizational campaigns as required.
- Provide MarCom guidance to internal stakeholders, helping translate operational objectives and program priorities into effective, audience-focused communications.
- Develop and manage social media content calendars aligned with organizational priorities, campaigns, programs, events, and audience needs.
- Write, edit, and adapt compelling content for social media, email, newsletters, websites, promotional materials, and other communications channels.
- Design high-quality, on-brand graphics and routine creative assets for digital and print applications.
- Develop and maintain website content, including promotional updates, program information, campaign content, and landing pages.
- Develop and execute email marketing and newsletters, including content creation, layout, deployment, and performance review.
- Support the execution and optimization of paid digital advertising across relevant platforms.
- Source, coordinate, and organize photography, video, and other content assets.
- Monitor channel and campaign performance, contribute to reporting, and use insights to strengthen future content and activity.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects, deadlines, and priorities while maintaining accuracy, brand consistency, and quality.
- Contribute to other Marketing and Communications priorities as organizational needs evolve.
Job Requirements
- Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, content development, or a related field.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt content for different audiences, purposes, and communications channels.
- Strong graphic design capability and visual judgment, with the ability to develop on-brand creative for digital and print applications.
- Proficiency across social media and other digital channels, including content development and publishing.
- Working knowledge of email marketing platforms and website content management systems.
- Ability to assess communications needs and recommend appropriate content, channels, and approaches within established strategy and brand standards.
- Ability to plan and execute integrated marketing and communications activity across multiple priorities and service areas.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders, projects, and deadlines.
- Ability to capture and edit engaging photo and video content for social media and other digital channels.
- Sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to independently advance assigned work while collaborating effectively and seeking direction or approval when appropriate.
- Criminal Record Checks are reviewed on an individual basis.
- Paid digital medial and campaign optimization experience.
- Print collateral development experience.
- Background working within the charitable or non-profit sector.
- Familiarity with marketing automation, social media management platforms, or related digital tools.
- Membership in a relevant professional association, such as IABC, and/or recognized communications or marketing certification.
Benefits of Working with the YMCA
