As a Cook with Camosun Food Services, you'll play a key role in preparing fresh, high-quality meals for students, faculty, staff, and guests across our campus dining and catering operations.
Working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, you'll bring recipes to life while having opportunities to showcase your culinary skills and creativity. From daily retail food service to special catered events, you'll prepare a variety of menu items while maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety, and presentation.
The successful candidate must be flexible and able to work at either the Lansdowne or Interurban campus based on operational requirements.

Unlike many hospitality and restaurant positions, our Food Services team primarily operates during regular campus business hours, allowing for a more predictable and balanced work schedule.

Job Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of menu items according to production guidelines, recipes, and quality standards.
- Set up workstations with all necessary ingredients, supplies, and equipment.
- Prepare ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, slicing, and peeling food items.
- Safely use kitchen utensils and equipment including knives, ovens, grills, steamers, slicers, mixers, and other food service equipment.
- Utilize a variety of cooking techniques including baking, roasting, broiling, grilling, sautéing, and steaming.
- Ensure food is prepared, portioned, garnished, and presented according to established standards.
- Maintain food quality, consistency, and freshness throughout service periods.
- Properly label, rotate, handle, and store food products in accordance with food safety regulations and company policies.
- Assist with catering production and special events as required.
- Clean and sanitize workstations, equipment, utensils, and food preparation areas.
- Maintain accurate temperature logs and follow food safety procedures.
- Monitor inventory levels and notify supervisors of product shortages.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive, professional attitude toward students, guests, and coworkers.
- Follow all Aramark and Camosun College safety policies and procedures.
- Protect company assets and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational success.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a cook or in a related culinary role.
- Knowledge of basic food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and kitchen operations.
- Understanding of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling practices.
- Ability to obtain FoodSafe Level 1 Certification if not currently certified.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Basic math and counting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to travel between Camosun's Lansdowne and Interurban campuses when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- FoodSafe Level 1 or Level 2 Certification.
- Red Seal Cook certification or formal culinary training.
- Experience in institutional dining, university food service, catering, hospitality, or high-volume food production.
- Experience preparing a variety of international cuisines and dietary accommodations.
Physical Requirements
This position requires:
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of up to 50 lbs.
- Repetitive food preparation tasks.
- Working safely around hot equipment and commercial kitchen environments.
- Use of required uniforms and personal protective equipment (PPE).
