Special Needs Daycare Support Worker job summary

ʔiiḥmisuk t̓aatn̓aʔis Aboriginal Head Start Program is seeking a part time Special Needs Daycare Support Worker who will work closely with parents & other ECE’s to promote a welcoming, supportive, safe environment for parents/caregivers & their children. The Special Needs Support Worker will develop, implement & supervise activities in a culturally supportive environment to meet the one on one physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and developmental needs of the individual children within the program while establishing routines for children: providing them with positive guidance and nurturing.

Core Responsibilities

● Provide individualized 1:1 support based on the child’s unique needs and abilities.

● Support the child’s participation in daily classroom activities, routines, and play.

● Assist with social, emotional, communication, and developmental needs.

● Promote inclusion and encourage positive interactions with peers and staff.

● Follow individualized support strategies and recommendations.

● Observe and document the child’s progress, behaviours, needs, and successes.

● Communicate effectively with the childcare team and family.

● Maintain a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment.

● Support independence and skill development whenever appropriate.

● Adapt activities and routines to meet the child’s changing needs.

What you offer:

  • Active/Valid Early Childhood Education Certificate, or Infant/Toddler/Special Needs Diploma
  • 1 years or more recent experience as a certified Infant Toddler/Special Needs Educator is preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and initiative
  • Knowledge of Indigenous history and culture
  • Proven experience in the design and implementation of age appropriate program planning and activities
  • A desire to learn within a culturally focused program
  • A solid understanding and adherence to the Community Care and Assisted Living Act Child Care Licensing Regulations
  • Experience supporting children with special needs is an asset.

Job Type: Part-time Monday to Friday - 8am to 1pm and or as scheduled

Hourly Rate: $29 to $35.00 per hour plus benefits
