Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Compensation

$65,000 – $72,000 per year (based on experience)

Position Summary

Monte Metals Inc. is seeking an organized, detail-oriented Purchasing & Shipping/Receiving Coordinator to oversee the complete flow of materials into and out of our metal fabrication facility.

This position serves as the critical link between the warehouse floor, production department, suppliers, freight carriers, and the front office. The successful candidate will manage purchasing activities, inventory control, mill certifications, shipping and logistics coordination, freight scheduling, and material traceability while ensuring production remains on schedule.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where priorities can change quickly.

Key ResponsibilitiesPurchasing & Supplier Management

  • Source and evaluate suppliers for steel, aluminum, stainless steel, hardware, consumables, coatings, and production supplies
  • Request and compare supplier quotations to obtain the best value, lead times, and service levels
  • Issue and manage purchase orders
  • Build and maintain strong vendor relationships
  • Negotiate pricing, freight costs, and delivery schedules
  • Monitor open purchase orders and follow up on late deliveries
  • Identify alternative suppliers when shortages or delays occur

Production Coordination & Scheduling

  • Track material requirements to maintain production schedules
  • Coordinate delivery dates with shop supervision and manufacturing personnel
  • Communicate material status updates to management and production teams
  • Proactively resolve material shortages before they impact operations
  • Monitor production priorities and coordinate expedited deliveries when required

ERP & Order Entry

  • Enter and maintain purchase orders within ERP systems and company tracking platforms
  • Maintain accurate pricing, quantity, and delivery records
  • Update order statuses and receiving information
  • Ensure purchasing and inventory documentation is accurate and complete
  • Generate reports for management regarding purchasing performance and inventory levels

Inventory Control

  • Monitor inventory levels and maintain sufficient stock levels
  • Coordinate incoming material receipts
  • Verify received materials against purchase orders and packing slips
  • Conduct inventory counts, reconciliations, and cycle counts
  • Ensure materials are properly labeled, identified, and stored after being unloaded by warehouse personnel
  • Maintain inventory accuracy within company systems

Mill Test Reports & Documentation Management

  • Collect and verify Mill Test Reports (MTRs) and material certifications for all incoming material
  • Maintain organized digital and physical certification records
  • Ensure full material traceability for customer and quality requirements
  • Coordinate certification requests from customers and project managers
  • Support quality assurance and audit requirements

Shipping & Receiving CoordinationLogistics & Carrier Management

  • Research and negotiate shipping rates with carriers including UPS, FedEx, DHL, Day & Ross, Manitoulin, Fastfrate, and other freight providers
  • Schedule inbound and outbound pickups and deliveries
  • Ensure shipments are delivered on schedule to meet customer deadlines
  • Determine the most efficient and cost-effective shipping methods
  • Coordinate domestic and international freight shipments
  • Track deliveries and resolve transportation issues

Administrative Oversight

  • Prepare and manage Bills of Lading (BOLs), commercial invoices, packing slips, customs documentation, and CUSMA certificates
  • Manage shipping claims for damaged or lost freight
  • Maintain daily records of inventory movements and shipments
  • Generate reports on shipping costs, carrier performance, delivery metrics, and inventory accuracy

Operational Leadership

  • Coordinate daily warehouse and shipping priorities
  • Assist in organizing workloads for shipping and receiving personnel
  • Act as the primary point of contact for shipment discrepancies, shortages, and logistics issues
  • Support onboarding and training of new employees on company procedures
  • Ensure all activities comply with company safety procedures, WHMIS standards, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations

QualificationsRequired

  • 3–5 years of purchasing, shipping, logistics, inventory, or supply chain experience
  • Manufacturing, steel fabrication, industrial, or construction industry experience preferred
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience working with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of freight coordination and shipping documentation
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

Preferred

  • Experience in steel, aluminum, or metal fabrication industries
  • Familiarity with Mill Test Reports (MTRs) and material traceability requirements
  • Experience with customs documentation and international freight
  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and TDG regulations
