Full job description

About the Role

AMP Capital Energy is looking for a curious, motivated Gas & Power Research Intern to join our team and help us build in-house expertise on Ontario's electricity and natural gas markets. This is a learning-focused internship — you don't need prior energy-market experience. If you're a strong researcher who's eager to dig into how Ontario's energy markets work, we'll teach you the rest.

You'll get hands-on exposure to real market participation, direct mentorship, and the chance to contribute to client advisory and platform strategy from day one.

ampcapital.ca

What You'll Do

  • Research how Ontario's electricity market works, including IESO programs like Global Adjustment, ICI/Class A peak management, the Capacity Auction, and day-ahead/real-time settlement (we'll get you up to speed on the fundamentals)
  • Follow Ontario natural gas markets — Dawn Hub pricing, Union/Enbridge rate structures, and supply/transportation basics
  • Keep an eye on regulatory changes, market notices, and policy shifts that affect energy costs for commercial and industrial customers
  • Turn what you find into clear, concise briefings and summaries for the team
  • Help build and maintain an organized knowledge base of market rules, pricing trends, and key contacts
  • Support client-facing conversations with accurate, well-sourced information

What We're Looking For

  • Genuine curiosity about energy markets and a willingness to learn quickly — no prior energy background required
  • Strong research skills and the ability to make sense of technical or regulatory material
  • Clear writing and communication; able to explain complicated things in plain language
  • Self-directed, organized, and comfortable in a fast-moving startup environment
  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (any field — we welcome students from economics, engineering, business, sciences, and beyond)

Bonus Points For

  • Coursework or interest in energy, utilities, economics, engineering, or a related field
  • Any exposure to demand response, energy procurement, or the greenhouse/agricultural or industrial sectors
  • Comfort with spreadsheets or working with data

Internship Details

  • Full-time commitment for the duration of the internship
  • Based in / serving the Windsor-Essex/Leamington corridor
  • Direct mentorship and real exposure to live Ontario energy market participation
  • A genuine learning opportunity — you'll leave with deep, practical knowledge of one of Canada's most important energy markets

Pay: $688.00-$1,026.00 per week

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Leamington, ON
