Full job description

Branch Operator – Calgary

About Vancouver Bitcoin

Vancouver Bitcoin is a Canadian cryptocurrency exchange business that helps customers buy and sell Bitcoin and other digital assets through in-person service, clear procedures, and a focus on trust, safety, and compliance.

We are hiring a full-time Branch Operator for our Calgary location.

About the Role

This is a full-time, in-person role responsible for operating the Calgary branch independently during business hours.

The role is similar to a financial services teller position, but with additional responsibility because the Branch Operator will often be working alone. The right person must be reliable, trustworthy, detail-oriented, comfortable handling customers and transactions, and able to follow procedures carefully.

This is not a remote role, and it is not a sales-manager or business-development role. The main responsibility is to operate the branch professionally and consistently.

Responsibilities

Branch Operations

  • Open and close the Calgary branch each business day.
  • Keep the branch clean, organized, secure, and ready for customers.
  • Serve walk-in customers professionally.
  • Answer phone calls, emails, and basic customer inquiries.
  • Follow company procedures for each transaction.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete required documentation.
  • Escalate unusual, complex, or higher-risk situations to management.
  • Keep management updated on branch activity, customer issues, and operational needs.

Customer Service

  • Assist customers who want to buy or sell cryptocurrency.
  • Explain the basic transaction process clearly and professionally.
  • Help customers understand what information or documents may be required.
  • Provide patient service to customers who may be new to cryptocurrency.
  • Maintain a calm, respectful, and trustworthy environment.
  • Avoid giving investment advice, price predictions, or guarantees.

Compliance and Procedures

  • Follow all company compliance, identification, and transaction procedures.
  • Complete required customer verification steps.
  • Watch for unusual or suspicious behaviour and escalate concerns.
  • Handle customer information with confidentiality.
  • Follow company policies for privacy, recordkeeping, and security.
  • Never bypass procedures to complete a transaction faster.

Cash, Transaction, and Security Responsibilities

  • Handle transactions carefully and accurately.
  • Reconcile transaction records as required.
  • Follow cash-handling and security procedures.
  • Maintain attention to detail when processing customer information.
  • Report discrepancies, concerns, or unusual activity immediately.

Quiet-Period Productivity

During quiet periods, the Branch Operator is expected to remain productive. This may include:

  • following up with customer inquiries;
  • organizing branch records;
  • completing assigned administrative tasks;
  • keeping the branch clean and prepared;
  • asking satisfied customers for reviews when appropriate;
  • supporting basic local awareness tasks approved by management;
  • reporting customer feedback or common questions to management.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in a bank, credit union, MSB, currency exchange, money transfer business, financial services office, fintech, cash-handling role, or similar environment is strongly preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • High trustworthiness and professional judgment.
  • Comfort working independently.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow procedures exactly.
  • Comfortable using computers, email, spreadsheets, and basic business software.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to remain productive during slow periods.
  • Interest in cryptocurrency is helpful, but deep crypto knowledge is not required.

Ideal Backgrounds

This role may be a good fit for someone with experience as a:

  • bank teller;
  • financial services representative;
  • currency exchange teller;
  • money transfer / remittance employee;
  • MSB employee;
  • fintech customer support representative;
  • cheque-cashing or payments employee;
  • retail branch operator;
  • trusted cash-handling customer service employee.

Who This Role Is For

This role is for someone who:

  • likes working with customers;
  • is comfortable being trusted to operate a branch alone;
  • takes procedures seriously;
  • is calm, mature, and reliable;
  • can handle quiet periods without becoming careless or distracted;
  • understands the importance of accuracy in financial transactions;
  • wants a stable, full-time, in-person role.

Who This Role Is Not For

This role is not a good fit for someone who:

  • wants a remote or hybrid job;
  • wants to freelance or work flexible hours;
  • dislikes routine procedures;
  • is careless with details;
  • is uncomfortable working alone;
  • wants to give investment advice or make crypto predictions;
  • cannot follow compliance rules exactly.

Compensation

  • Starting wage: $24/hour
  • Full-time, in-person position
  • Compensation may be reviewed based on reliability, performance, transaction accuracy, customer service, and ability to follow procedures.

Schedule

  • Full-time branch coverage during business hours
  • Specific schedule to be discussed during the hiring process

How to Apply

Please apply with your resume and a brief note explaining:

  • Your experience in financial services, cash handling, banking, MSB, currency exchange, or similar work.
  • Your experience working independently or operating a location alone.
  • Why you are interested in working at Vancouver Bitcoin’s Calgary branch.

Pay: $24.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Dental care
  • Extended health care
  • On-site parking
  • Paid time off
