Job Overview
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Chief 150-GT Domestic, to join our team in a fast-paced cruise ship operation. As a Chief Mate, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional guest experience, while ensuring the highest safety standards. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in a team-oriented atmosphere and are passionate about providing a positive guest experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operation of passenger vessels with a focuson safety, security, and the customer experience
  • Maintain vessel operations, maintenance logs, and reports
  • Ensure Deckhands are focused on safety and adequately trained in the safety procedures for the vessel
  • Conduct emergency drills in accordance with Transport Canada
  • Inspect all areas of vessels for unsafe conditions
  • Perform preliminary accident investigations
  • Lead by example providing exceptional customer service
  • Assist with maintenance of engines, fuelling and dumping
  • Maintain a clean and organized wheelhouse and dock
  • Take an active role in waste management and sustainability objectives.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Chief Mate 150 Gross Tonnage certificate
  • Valid Medical Certificate issued by Transport Canada
  • Marine First Advanced First Aid
  • Small Vessel Machinery Operator Certificate (asset)
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in a similar role (asset)
  • Bilingualism French and English (asset)

  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Knowledge of the Tobermory area

Working Conditions

  • 5 to 6 shifts per week / 6-12 hours per shift
  • No shifts start before 7:00am or finish after 10:30pm
  • Frequent exposure to noise
  • Frequent exposure to high volume and constant flow of people
  • At times travelling on rough waters or in wind, rain, heat and sun
  • Reassignments with little to no notice during shifts
  • Weather dependant shifts may be cancelled without notice
  • Uniform must be purchased and worn at all times on shift
