Position Overview

The Crew Planner / Flight Follower is a vital hybrid role within our Calgary Operations Control Center (OCC), combining meticulous crew scheduling with active, hands-on flight following. This individual is responsible for managing and scheduling pilots and flight attendants in strict accordance with company requirements and Transport Canada regulations. This position is fully "on the desk"—directly executing day-to-day operations while strategically optimizing crew utilization and expertly navigating Irregular Operations (IROPs).

Position Highlights

  • Crew Scheduling: Build, manage, and optimize schedules for pilots and flight attendants, ensuring compliance with Transport Canada regulations regarding rest, duty limitations, and fatigue management.
  • Active Flight Following: Serve as an active desk operator, monitoring and tracking all fleet movements throughout the shift, and providing a consistent link between aircraft and the ground.
  • IROP and Disruption Management: Act as the frontline problem solver during Irregular Operations (IROPs), dynamically adjusting crew assignments and flight schedules to minimize delays while strictly respecting legal rest constraints.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with operational leadership and the Business Development workgroups to align crew availability with commercial demands and new business opportunities.
  • Resource Optimization: Proactively identify future staffing gaps or scheduling inefficiencies, maximizing crew utilization without compromising safety or well-being.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years in aviation operations, with a specific focus on crew scheduling and active flight following/tracking in a commercial environment.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) regarding flight, duty, and rest time limitations for commercial air operators.
  • Operational Agility: Proven capability to work effectively in a hybrid, fast-paced role where multitasking between administrative scheduling and active operational tracking is required.
  • Communication Skills: Strong collaborative skills with a track record of working successfully across business development and operational teams.
  • Technical Proficiency: Competence in aviation tracking software, crew management systems, and standard office productivity tools.
