Full job description
Who We Are
Paint Cabin is Toronto’s original full-service paint bar. A creative social space offering painting, art workshops, private parties, corporate events, food and beverage service, and unique experiences for anyone and everyone.
We’re all about making creativity approachable, social, and fun. As a full-service paint bar, we bring together art, drinks, hospitality, and memorable experiences in one welcoming space. Our team plays a huge part in creating an environment where guests can relax, connect, try something new, and leave with both something they created and a great experience.
About You
You’re creative, outgoing, dependable, and genuinely enjoy working with people. You’re comfortable being in front of a group, can explain artistic techniques in an approachable way, and know how to keep the energy of a workshop fun and engaging.
You’re equally comfortable picking up a paintbrush, helping a guest one-on-one, serving a drink, resetting the studio, or jumping in wherever the team needs support.
You have a strong foundation in painting and drawing and are comfortable working primarily with acrylic paint. Previous customer service, hospitality, teaching, or facilitation experience is strongly preferred.
The Role
As a Creative Workshop Instructor, you’ll lead and support Paint Cabin’s creative workshops, parties, and events while helping deliver an exceptional guest experience from arrival to cleanup.
This is more than simply teaching people how to paint. Our instructors are also hosts. You’ll welcome guests, guide them through their creative experience, keep workshops running on time, assist with food and beverage service, and help create the relaxed, social atmosphere Paint Cabin is known for.
Depending on the event, you may lead your own workshop, assist another instructor, support a private party, or work alongside the team during larger corporate events.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Creative Workshops: Guide guests through painting and other creative activities while making the experience approachable, encouraging, and fun.
- Prepare for Workshops: Set up canvases, easels, paints, brushes, palettes, aprons, attendee lists, seating, and other workshop materials.
- Host & Welcome Guests: Greet guests, assist with seating and check-in, explain the experience, and help create a welcoming atmosphere.
- Guest Support: Move throughout the studio assisting guests with techniques, creative questions, supplies, and encouragement.
- Food & Beverage Support: Direct guests to available menu options and assist with bar and tableside beverage service when required.
- Private & Corporate Events: Help lead and support birthdays, celebrations, team-building events, buyouts, and large-scale creative experiences.
- Studio Operations: Assist with opening, closing, cleaning, restocking, organizing supplies, and maintaining a clean and professional studio.
- Team Support: Communicate with fellow instructors and studio leadership and step into different responsibilities as needed to keep events running smoothly.
What We're Looking For
- Strong painting and drawing skills, particularly with acrylic paint.
- Approximately 2+ years of painting, drawing, or related visual arts experience.
- Previous customer service, hospitality, teaching, facilitation, or event experience.
- Confident speaking and presenting in front of groups.
- Friendly, energetic, and comfortable engaging with different personalities and age groups.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, punctual, organized, and able to take initiative.
- Comfortable receiving feedback and following Paint Cabin's workshop procedures and standards.
- Able to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Comfortable using basic technology required for studio and event operations.
- Flexible availability, particularly evenings and weekends.
Smart Serve certification and previous bar or restaurant experience are considered an asset but are not required.
Physical Requirements
This is an active, hands-on studio position. Candidates must be able to:
- Stand and move throughout the studio for extended periods.
- Frequently bend, reach, carry, set up, and clean workshop materials.
- Lift and carry items weighing up to approximately 40 lbs.
- Move safely through busy and sometimes tight studio spaces.
- Work comfortably in a lively, fast-paced environment involving music, large groups, and multiple events.
Availability
This is a permanent part-time position intended for candidates interested in becoming a consistent member of the Paint Cabin team.
Our busiest periods include evenings and weekends, so regular availability during these times is important. Hours may vary depending on workshops, private bookings, and events.
How to Apply
Please submit your resume along with an art portfolio or examples of your artwork to hello@paintcabin.com.
We're looking for people who bring creativity, personality, professionalism, and great energy into the studio.
And one last requirement: you must be comfortable around dogs — our studio dogs occasionally join us for events!
Pay: $17.60-$20.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 20.0 per week
Benefits:
- Flexible schedule
Work Location: In person
