Pro-Formance Intermodal Inc. is seeking an experienced and highly organized OTR Dispatcher to join our growing transportation team. This position is ideal for a logistics professional with strong Western Canada port experience and a solid understanding of ocean container transportation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, dispatching, tracking, and managing over-the-road shipments while maintaining exceptional customer service and operational efficiency. This individual must thrive in a fast-paced environment, possess strong problem-solving skills, and have the ability to proactively manage freight movements across Canada.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule, dispatch, and monitor company drivers and third-party carriers to meet customer requirements and service commitments.
- Manage day-to-day OTR operations involving import and export ocean containers.
- Monitor load status to ensure on-time pickups, deliveries, and container returns.
- Coordinate container movements from Western Canadian ports, rail terminals, warehouses, and customer facilities.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, brokers, customers, terminals, and internal departments.
- Respond promptly to customer inquiries and resolve service issues professionally.
- Enter and maintain accurate shipment information within the Transportation Management System (TMS).
- Track and monitor driver availability, Hours of Service compliance, and equipment utilization.
- Identify operational challenges and implement proactive solutions to minimize service disruptions.
- Monitor weather, road conditions, and other factors that may impact service levels.
- Optimize routing, equipment utilization, and load planning to maximize efficiency and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and transportation regulations.
- Coordinate appointment scheduling and manage time-sensitive shipments.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports and performance metrics.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the transportation department.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Minimum 5 years of dispatching experience in the transportation and logistics industry.
- Minimum 2 years of experience managing freight through Western Canadian ports.
- Strong understanding of ocean container operations, including import and export processes.
- Experience working with steamship lines, container terminals, rail providers, and drayage carriers.
- Knowledge of port operations in Vancouver, Prince Rupert, and Western Canadian transportation networks.
- Strong understanding of container logistics, including:
- Empty returns
- Container availability
- Vessel cut-offs
- Port appointments
- Demurrage and detention
- Rail billing and container tracking
- Experience using transportation management systems (TMS) and load planning software.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Experience with PORTS, CN and CP rail operations.
- Intermodal transportation experience.
- Experience managing owner-operators and broker carrier networks.
- Knowledge of reefer, dry container, and specialty equipment movements.
- Previous experience within a high-volume port or intermodal environment.
