Vancouver Island Technology Park (VITP) is looking for an experienced Security Officer with a valid BC Security Worker’s License to carry out duties at 4464 Markham Road. We are conveniently located 15 minutes from Downtown Victoria and from the Saanich Peninsula. VITP features 35 acres of walking trails, an on-site café, a fitness centre, a community garden, secure bike storage and transit bus availability.

We oversee a variety of real estate holdings in Victoria on behalf of the University of Victoria (UVic), including Vancouver Island Technology Park, the Marine Technology Centre and the Queenswood Oceans and Climate property. UVic Properties does not oversee operations on UVic campus.

Position Summary

Your shift will consist of time at the main Security Desk with expectations to walk the grounds and buildings of VITP completing two security patrols. Typical shift will include plenty of stairs to climb and on average of about 10,000 steps.

This position is well suited to an experienced security guard seeking a professional environment. Due to our location and nature of our tenants, security work at VITP is generally proactive and service oriented with minimal high conflict incidents. We strive to provide a healthy work-life balance, offer above-average industry pay, and premium shift differential pay.

This is an on-call position requiring availability for rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. We are currently looking to fill our Saturday and Sunday shifts, with the opportunity to cover additional shifts as they become available due to time off requests. Typical Shift Allocations

Security operations are conducted seven (7) days per week, 24 hours per day

Shifts may include:

• Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
• Evening Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
• Night Shift: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct indoor and outdoor patrols
• Monitor security and surveillance systems – previous experience with CCTV and VMS an asset
• Respond to alarms, incidents, and emergencies
• Manage access control to several buildings and secure areas at local and remote locations
• Complete incident reports and daily logs – Track Tik experience an asset
• Provide wayfinding guidance for tenants, visitors, delivery drivers, and contractors
• Maintain a professional and approachable security presence

• Strong communication and observation skills
• Ability to remain calm under pressure
• Reliable, professional, and able to work independently
• Working knowledge of computers, radios, access control systems, and basic office equipment
