COURT SUPPORT WORKER

One-Year Full-time contract

Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic offers trauma-informed legal services and representation, counselling and multilingual interpretation, and drives system transformation to support women and gender-diverse people who have experienced violence. Rooted in the foundations of intersectionality, innovation, and a client-centered approach, we foster the skills and resilience of the people we serve and amplify their voices to create individual and collective change.

We are seeking a COURT SUPPORT WORKER who will be responsible for coordinating and supporting clients involved in the Clinic’s Criminalization of Women Project, ensuring timely, trauma‑informed, and client‑centered access to services. This role focuses on comprehensive case management, system navigation, and continuity of care across legal and community‑based supports. This role is central to ensuring integrated service delivery, enhancing client outcomes, and strengthening community connections across the program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

All duties and responsibilities will be carried out in accordance with Barbra Schlifer Clinic's Mandate, Mission and Values Statements.

DIRECT SUPPORT TO SURVIVORS

  • Accompany survivors to court, legal meetings, and related appointments
  • Support survivors to understand court processes, expectations, and outcomes
  • Provide emotional support before, during, and after court appearances
  • Assist with referrals and connections to community resources
  • Support communication and coordination between survivors and legal counsel
  • Reduce anxiety, confusion, and isolation associated with criminal legal
  • Apply a trauma‑informed, anti‑oppressive, and culturally responsive approach in all aspects of service delivery

CLIENT ADVOCACY

  • Advocate on behalf of survivors to help them access the necessary resources and support within the legal system
  • Collaborate with legal professionals, community organizations, and other stakeholders to enhance support networks for survivors

CASE MANAGEMENT REPORTING

  • Maintain detailed case records, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy
  • Track and report on the outcomes and challenges faced by survivors

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

  • This position will work with the Clinic's Executive Office, Intake and Legal teams, as well as the Clinic’s Evaluator
  • This position reports to and is supervised by the Executive Director or her designate

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in a related field (law, social work, gender studies, etc.) or equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of legal processes and systems, especially as they relate to survivors of various forms of trauma
  • Experience working with survivors or in legal support roles
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Empathy, sensitivity, and a commitment to upholding the rights of survivors
  • Awareness of intersecting conditions that affect the experience of violence and trauma among a diverse clientele
  • Demonstrated understanding of legal and social issues relating to domestic violence, consistent with an intersectional feminist/anti-oppression analysis
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and strong attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills, written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Be a self-starter, creative and highly motivated
  • Share ideas and differences in the spirit of collaboration and cooperation
  • Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development

SALARY: $51,360 annually, FT 35 hours per week

The position includes a comprehensive health benefits package offered through a group plan as part of our United Way membership upon successful completion of a probationary period.

DURATION: 12 months
