The Opportunity

We are seeking a Health & Safety Officer to join our team and play a key role in strengthening our safety culture. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive professional who wants to make a real impact by leading health and safety initiatives across our organization. You will not only manage compliance but also drive strategic projects such as implementing COR certification and introducing a modern health and safety software solution.

Key Responsibilities:

Health and Safety

As the Health & Safety Officer, you will own and oversee the Health and Safety program. You will be responsible for:

· Providing guidance to site employees and contractors on company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements

· Writing and updating procedures, safe work practices, and emergency response plans

· Completing and assisting with incident and near-miss investigations

· Conducting safety orientations, training, and education for employees

· Organizing specialized site training as required

· Evaluating and improving the hazard assessment process

· Managing emergency response plans for job sites

· Preparing and maintaining safety reports and recording job site statistics

· Tracking and scheduling tool, equipment, and vehicle maintenance

· Conducting regular site audits, hazard analyses, and PPE compliance checks

· Managing WSIB claims and working closely with external representatives

· Researching, selecting, and implementing health and safety software

Additional Responsibilities:

· Obtaining and maintaining COR certification

· Working toward WSIB Excellence Program goals

· As part of a smaller company, you may also be asked to lead side projects that are not directly related to health and safety

Project Management and Reporting:

· Tracking training efforts

· Coordinating with managers to ensure training is completed

· Tracking actual expenses against budget on grant

· Ensuring all program goals are met

· Reporting monthly to the provincial government

Required Skills:

· Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field

· Minimum 5 years of experience in health and safety in construction or electrical contracting

· Knowledge of Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and experience implementing COR certification requirements

· CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation an asset

· Strong organizational and communication skills

· Experience with safety management systems and software

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

· Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites

· Able to obtain a Secret-level clearance
