Full job description

Origin Accounting & Advisory is expanding, and we’re looking for a driven, skilled Controller to help us provide top-notch virtual accounting and financial consulting services to clients across Canada. This role will be providing Controller services to multiple clients simultaneously on a fractional, part-time basis.

We’re a young, ambitious accounting firm with a strong focus on delivering high-quality work with efficiency - all while maintaining a healthy work/life balance. We believe in leveraging modern tools to work smarter and collaborate seamlessly.

*Although this is a remote role, we will only be considering applicants located in either BC or Alberta, Canada. We would like to have occasional team meetings in person.

Your day-to-day:

  • Client Coordination: You’ll be the go-to person for your clients, collaborating with them to collect financial details, address any concerns, and keep them informed with regular updates.
  • Full-Cycle Accounting: Manage all aspects of accounting, from posting journal entries, overseeing accounts payable/receivable, monthly reconciliations, payroll processing, and preparing financial statements. This is a hands-on role.
  • Mentor Junior Team Members: You’ll support and review the work of junior team members.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Constantly evaluate and improve our accounting processes, looking for ways to boost efficiency, accuracy, and overall performance.
  • Stay on Top of Filings: Ensure government tax filings (GST, PST, and payroll deductions) are processed accurately and on time. You will not be doing tax preparation services.

What you need to succeed:

  • Canadian CPA Designation is required.
  • Ability to multitask and simultaneously manage multiple clients and systems.
  • Be well organized – this role is best suited for an individual that thrives being organized.
  • Enjoy learning new technology and adapt to it with ease.
  • Have prior experience working remotely and enjoy it.
  • You must have experience with the month-end close process, and you’re comfortable with the basics like performing reconciliations and closing month-end.
  • You’ve got a strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting, and you’re ready to apply it to real-world situations.
  • You’re great at communicating and building relationships, whether you’re working with clients or collaborating with the team.
  • You know how to spot discrepancies, dive into the numbers, and resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
  • You’re proficient in accounting systems such as QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, and Sage 50. You’re also comfortable learning new software - since each client has different systems, being adaptable is key to success in this role.
  • You're skilled in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, advanced formulas, and pivot tables.

Why you’ll want to work with us:

  • We treat you like the professional you are: we will provide you with autonomy but expect the work to be done on time, correctly, and with open communication.
  • 100% remote work – see note above.
  • Salary range $95,000-130,000 depending on experience
  • Medical and dental benefit

If you’re ready to make a difference and take the next step in your accounting career, we’d love to hear from you!
