Position: Production Supervisor

Reports To: Packhouse Manager

Days/Hours: Fulltime, Flexibility is required as hours will vary based on seasonal needs

Compensation Type: Compensation to be based on experience

Location: AMHERSTBURG

JOB SUMMARY:

The Production Supervisor is an essential part of the Greenhouse Operations Team - their role is to support the greenhouse operations by preparing product for market. They will oversee production lines for our greenhouse facilities, a total of 25 acres, growing organic tomatoes. They will lead by example all packinghouse employees and ensure quality packaging of our product for market. They train and supervise workers to follow all food safety, quality, Good Manufacturing processes, company policies and procedures and ensure only the best product is release to our customers.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • High school or equivalent (Required), post-secondary education preferred.

· 10 years greenhouse production processing experience (Required)

· 3 years production managerial experience (Required)

· Fluent in Both English and Spanish, spoken/written (Asset)

· Forklift Certification (Asset)

· HACCP Certification (Asset)

· WHIMS Training (Asset)

· Legally able to work in Canada

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Managerial experience in a team environment of 20-30 people daily over 2 shifts
  • Strong reading, writing, oral communication with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • High level of analytical, dispute resolution and problem-solving skills required.

· Strong administrative, time management, delegation, planning and leadership skills.

  • Familiar with legislation and regulations pertaining to greenhouse production food safety and health & safety.
  • Self motivated with excellent organizational abilities.

· Flexibility, adaptability, and attention to detail are essential.

  • Proficient in the use of a computer and Microsoft Office skills required.

· Must be available to work Monday through Saturday; an average of 50-55 hours per week.

· Must have the ability to travel to and from locations within Essex County.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITES:

  • Schedule packaging orders for the designated shift and supervise employees to ensure the work is completed timely, effectively and safely.
  • Track labour and product yields daily.
  • Monitor the quantity and quality of product ensuring that it is of the required standard.
  • Monitor the working environment to ensure that company and statutory hygiene, and safety policies and procedures are complied with.
  • Maintain and review all necessary packing records.
  • Maintain inspection of labeling and packaging specifications.
  • Employee development - Motivate, train and effective use of the corrective action process.
  • Communicate all variances in packaging or quality to proper management immediately.
  • Ongoing communication with Growers and Marketer to obtain/provide details on production quantities.
  • Creating labour plans for the packing operations based on production quantities.
  • Making daily stops at each greenhouse to address any concerns, provide direction and updates.
  • Conducting regular meetings with workers to encourage and motivate them and update them on production and quality requirements.
  • Supervising workers including motivating, training and directing them, completing performance reviews; managing worker/labour related issues alongside Human Resources.
  • Maintaining production and operational records.
  • Observe and maintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to sustain a safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WORKPLACE CONDITIONS:

  • Fast-paced environment.
  • Varying temperatures.
  • Requires walking, bending, crouching, standing throughout the day.
  • Exposure to bees, bugs, and chemicals.
  • Must be willing to work weekends.
