Embedded Software Developer / Architect (Intermediate to Senior)
Location: Montreal, QC | Type: 12-month contract or permanent | Onsite: 4 days per week on site

About the Role
A Canadian space technology company is hiring embedded software professionals at two levels to join its agile flight software team. The team documents, architects and implements complex flight software for space applications, including communications and satellite payload systems. We will match you to the level that fits your experience.

Level 1: Embedded Software Developer

  • Collaborate with the team to specify, design, code, test and maintain embedded flight software
  • Support the development of formal documentation within a multidisciplinary team (systems, digital, RF)
  • Support flight code integration and testing within flight labs, and troubleshoot issues in the lab
  • Support software process automation

Experience: 5+ years of embedded software development (7+ preferred), with RTOS and C, C++ and Python.

Level 2: Senior Embedded Software Architect

  • Lead the architecture and design of software for satellite payload systems with a multidisciplinary team (systems, digital, RF)
  • Act as technical leader in an agile team, refine software requirements and implement flight code
  • Coach team members, hold one-on-one meetings and provide performance feedback
  • Interact with customers, take part in new project proposals and lead continuous improvement initiatives

Experience: 10+ years of embedded software development (15+ preferred) with demonstrated architecture ownership. Requires networking and communication protocols, boot code for embedded CPUs, complex SoCs, RTOS, and strong C and C++14.

Requirements for Both Levels

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience with continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD)
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git
  • Experience working in a scrum / agile team
  • Very good communication and collaboration skills in English or French
  • Must be able to pass a background check covering the past 5 years

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of CCSDS, MIL-STD-1553, CAN bus and SpaceWire
  • Knowledge of satellite communication standards such as DVB-S2X, or experience with RF systems
  • Experience with Visual Studio or Eclipse, JIRA and Confluence, and VectorCast
  • Experience with embedded Linux
  • Experience in formal software development (requirements, design, testing)
  • Proficiency in French and English

Une entreprise canadienne de technologie spatiale recrute des professionnel(le)s du logiciel embarqué à deux niveaux pour se joindre à son équipe agile de logiciels de vol. L’équipe documente, conçoit l’architecture et met en œuvre des logiciels de vol complexes pour des applications spatiales, notamment les communications et les systèmes de charge utile de satellites. Nous vous orienterons vers le niveau qui correspond à votre expérience.

Niveau 1 : Développeur(euse) de logiciels embarqués

  • Collaborer avec l’équipe pour spécifier, concevoir, coder, mettre à l’essai et maintenir le logiciel de vol embarqué
  • Soutenir l’élaboration de la documentation formelle dans une équipe multidisciplinaire (systèmes, numérique, RF)
  • Soutenir l’intégration du code de vol et les essais en laboratoire de vol, et diagnostiquer les problèmes en laboratoire
  • Soutenir l’automatisation des processus logiciels

Expérience : 5 ans ou plus en développement de logiciels embarqués (7 ans et plus, un atout), avec RTOS ainsi que C, C++ et Python.

Niveau 2 : Architecte principal(e) de logiciels embarqués

  • Diriger l’architecture et la conception de logiciels pour les systèmes de charge utile de satellites avec une équipe multidisciplinaire (systèmes, numérique, RF)
  • Agir comme leader technique au sein d’une équipe agile, raffiner les exigences logicielles et mettre en œuvre le code de vol
  • Encadrer les membres de l’équipe, tenir des rencontres individuelles et donner de la rétroaction sur le rendement
  • Interagir avec les clients, participer aux propositions de nouveaux projets et diriger les initiatives d’amélioration continue

Expérience : 10 ans ou plus en développement de logiciels embarqués (15 ans et plus, un atout), avec une responsabilité démontrée en architecture logicielle. Exige les protocoles de réseautique et de communication, le code d’amorçage pour processeurs embarqués, les systèmes sur puce (SoC) complexes, RTOS, ainsi que de solides compétences en C et C++14.

Exigences pour les deux niveaux

  • Baccalauréat en génie électrique ou informatique, ou l’équivalent
  • Expérience avec l’intégration et la livraison continues (CI/CD)
  • Expérience avec les systèmes de contrôle de version tels que Git
  • Expérience de travail au sein d’une équipe scrum / agile
  • Très bonnes capacités de communication et de collaboration en anglais ou en français
  • Capacité à réussir une vérification des antécédents couvrant les 5 dernières années

Atouts

  • Connaissance de CCSDS, MIL-STD-1553, du bus CAN et de SpaceWire
