Overview of Position:

We are searching for a Field Carpenter who will be responsible for completing installation of modular buildings. Including installation of foundations, placing buildings, completing structural framing, architectural finishes, and accessories. This position will involve travel to job sites within Canada with a rotation of 21 days on and 7 off.

The successful candidates must be proficient at the following tasks: Read drawings & prints, use of power tools, handling modular buildings, framing and interior finishing. They must also have knowledge of residential construction practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Placing and setting modular buildings
  • Framing walls, decks, steps & landings
  • Install windows and doors
  • Interior finishing, including drywall, trim, and flooring
  • Exterior finishing, envelope, weatherproofing, skirting
  • Perform other related duties, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required, and the work does not exceed own limitations
  • Operate and maintain light duty vehicles
  • Operate and maintain light equipment (Bobcats, forklifts, etc.)
  • Operating and maintain power tools and equipment
  • Understanding and complying with all Policies and Procedures
  • Keeping a daily log of tasks
  • Contributing and participating in the effective use of the Quality Control System
  • Reading blueprints and detailed specs

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Ticketed (Preferred) and Non-Ticketed Carpenters
  • 1-Year minimum experience in the trade
  • Knowledge of building methods, tools, and equipment
  • Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand, power tools, and equipment
  • Ability to read building specifications, blueprints, and as-builds
  • Ability to layout, frame, and finish on typical projects
  • Ability to draw appropriate sketches to communicate details to team members, and others.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Effective verbal and listening communications skills
  • Time management skills
  • Flooring installation experience is an asset but not required
  • Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary to do material, labor estimates, and to interpret job cost reports
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimum supervision
  • Collaborative in dealing with customers and fellow employees
  • Ability to make suggestions for improvement
  • Proactive in ensuring job knowledge is current
  • Respect diversity — treat others with respect
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures and ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively with lead-hand, co-workers, and customers
  • Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary to do material and labor estimates and to interpret job cost reports
