Full job description

Takwata Builders owns and operates a large fleet of earthwork equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, and rock trucks. Our senior personnel have extensive resumes in tailings pond construction, bulk excavation, ponds and ditching, and any earthworks project big or small.

Heavy Equipment Operator - Excavator Operator

Working under the Operations Manager and Project Supervisor(s). Shift rotations = 2 weeks in, 1 week out. Rotations alternate between Day Shifts and Night Shifts. OT after 55 hours. Benefits will be discussed during interview.

Roles and Responsibilities – Including but not limited to:

  • Safe operation of an excavator.
  • Handling and/or moving material.
  • Perform daily housekeeping of equipment.
  • Operate in a safe and efficient way in accordance with all relevant legislation, company policies and procedures.
  • Perform Field Level Risk Assessments prior to performing work.
  • Perform a walk-around inspection (circle checks) before, during, and after every shift, and report any discrepancies to your supervisor.
  • Complete daily logs and daily reports on delays, production, and safety issues as applicable.
  • Identify, report, and correct hazards.
  • Effectively communicate with all site personnel and co-workers.
  • Identity, report, and correct hazards.
  • Maintain daily logs of equipment usage, maintenance, etc.
  • Handle and manipulate objects on a repetitive basis.
  • Punctuality.
  • Physically demanding.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work independently, assess and solve issues as they arise.
  • Collaborate with construction crews and other equipment operators to ensure project goals are met.
  • Responsible for communicating any information changes to the Human Resource Coordinator (driver’s license, address, etc.).

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience operating an excavator (job experience is a must).
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
  • 2-1 sloping in preparation for liner installation (capable of carrying a 2-1 slope).
  • Must be able to do fine grade work.
  • Experience operating Komatsu, CAT, Hitachi equipment considered an asset.
  • Ability to safely operate excavators to perform a range of tasks.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures to ensure safe operations.
  • Skill in maneuvering and adjusting controls to ensure precise operation.
  • Ability to prepare ground and ensure stability for excavator operation.
  • Ability to inspect and troubleshoot excavators for potential issues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other people in a group.
  • Organize seamless operation when applicable under supervisors’ approval.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and guidelines for construction sites.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication (English) and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work quickly, efficiently, and in a safe manner.
  • Ability to cope with production pressures and prioritize safety.
  • Able to ascend and descend equipment throughout the shift.
  • Able and comfortable with repetitive tasks.
  • Willing to learn and take direction.
  • Skill to plan and prioritize tasks to accomplish goals in a timely manner.
