PowerNorth Utilities Contractors Inc is a specialized High-Voltage Power contracting firm. We offer leading industry expertise and operate in the Mining, Utilities and Renewables sectors delivering exceptional solutions through Transmission, Distribution, Substation, Emergency Response, and Equipment Rentals. We are based in Sudbury, Ontario but you can find us working in every corner of the Great White North. PowerNorth is independently owned and partners with customers of all shapes and sizes.

We are currently seeking a Construction Manager - Substation to join our team in Ontario.

Type of Position:

Full Time, Permanent, on-site

Reports to:

Project Manager.

THE POSITION

The primary purpose of the Construction Manager - Substation will be to provide overall guidance and management to one or more construction and/or maintenance projects with the responsibility for ensuring compliance with client requirements. Additionally, the Construction Manager - Substation will assume a leadership role and oversee and provide guidance for internal requirements for safety, quality, schedule, and cost for all assigned projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure tracking and collection of quality documents and provides correction of and proper documentation of field quality issues
  • Ensure all quality requirements are met, including timely completion of QA/QC checklists and as-builts.
  • Assist with preparation and updates of project schedules, assist with preparing recovery schedule when required.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate policies and project schedules/milestones.
  • Efficiently coordinate resources as per project requirements
  • Supports estimating team during estimate preparation and provides supporting documents to help estimating, inclusive of but not limited to: execution narratives, and other construction plans
  • Direct and coordinate installation crews and provide direction to project administration and field support staff as required
  • General management and reporting of all projects within scope
  • Conduct daily tailboard meetings and end-of-day closeouts with direct reports.
  • Provide daily progress reports to PowerNorth site team and PowerNorth Project Manager.
  • Review safety, security, and environmental policies with team members as required.
  • Participate in resource planning with construction, project, and fleet managers.
  • Review and approve daily timesheets; monitor and minimize unscheduled overtime.
  • Arrange equipment deliveries and ensure inspections are completed.
  • Identify and communicate scope changes for pricing to Project Manager.
  • Review IFC package prior to mobilization.
  • Confirm and update Bill of Materials (BOM) with Procurement Manager.
  • Ensure all crew members have required safety training and orientations.
  • Attend project meetings as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

· Red Seal electrical trade is considered an asset.

· High attention to detail;

· Ability to prioritize assigned tasks.

  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Project Management, or an trade credential related to the company's work is preferred. A combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of main construction office processes; project set-up; subcontract management; change orders; RFI's; closeout

· Proven experience with providing direction and managing projects.

  • Able and willing to travel to and work in remote project locations, embedded in operational work groups

· Have and maintain a valid driver license and acceptable (5) year drivers abstract

· Regular attendance and punctuality are required;

· Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask;

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel;

· Ability to maintain customer and employee confidentiality;

COMPENSATION:

· Hourly rate to be discussed based on qualifications.

· Benefit enrollment following 3-month probationary period.

Pay: $60.00-$80.00 per hour
