Confidential - Multi-company Building Products Distributor/Manufacturer is seeking a Controller to join our team. This is a great opportunity for a motivated individual with a positive attitude and a drive to succeed.

As the Controller, you will be a key member of our finance team, responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial oversight, including full cycle accounting, financial reporting, and payroll.

The ideal candidate will bring previous experience in a controller or senior finance role and is willing to learn all facets of the business. We are a growing wholesale building supply business, seeking a well-rounded accounting professional above all.

There is no job too big, or too small, for our candidate. We would love for the individual to grow within our company. Although most of initial work will include the duties (listed below), the ideal candidate is a confident communicator and speaker. Building supply or construction knowledge and/or experience would be considered a major asset, though not a requirement. Netsuite knowledge would be an asset.

Job Duties: (will include but are not limited to)

  • Manage/oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and payroll.
  • Keep up to date with the accounting standards for private enterprises, and any new tax regulations that provide opportunities for savings.
  • Prepare the month-end package on a timely basis, and submit per the requirements set forth by management and the bank.
  • Monitor internal controls over accounting practices for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
  • Educate and lead the finance team of three direct reports, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Consolidate and reconcile intercompany transactions.
  • Monitor costs carefully and allocate costs to our cost of inventories consistently.
  • Ad hoc duties include purchasing and logistics assistance, creation of reports within our ERP system, data analysis using Excel and preparing estimated project cash flows.

Requirements:

  • Reliable means of transportation.
  • Proven experience as a Controller or similar role (min. 5 years).
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and financial management best practices.
  • Very detail-oriented and can recommend areas for improvement.
  • Proficient in using ERP Software, such as Oracle and Netsuite.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to mentor, and develop a finance team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the Construction Industry is an asset.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (most importantly, Excel).
  • Works well under deadlines.
  • Has a team-player attitude.
  • A thirst for learning and personal growth.
