Full job description

Position Title: Truck Driver

Hours of Work: Up to 40+ Hours per Week

Department: Westhills Aggregates LLP

Reports To: Trucking Foreman

Status: On-Call/Term

Wage: $28-$30 per hour (Based on Experience)

Location: 999 Westhills Drive, Penticton, BC, V2A 0E8

Deadline: Open until filled

Established in 1992, Westhills Aggregates specializes in the production and processing of sand and gravel, with an emphasis on crushing and screening of construction aggregates. In addition to the trucking and delivery of aggregates, Westhills Aggregates also conducts civil and earthworks construction, including road maintenance, site preparation, excavation, snow plowing/removal, water line and septic system installations.

Job Summary:

Under the discretion of the Trucking Foreman, the Truck Driver will operate Tandem Axle/gravel truck and pup/trailer to load, unload, transport and deliver materials or equipment on short/long haul trips. May be called upon to operate other equipment or engage in activities as the Company sees fit. Expectations of our drivers are stringent, and we require they always act in a professional manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform pre/post-trip inspection report and maintenance/repair log
  • Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo
  • Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, etc.
  • Perform brake adjustments
  • Clean, lubricate and refill tanks
  • Report any required or preventative maintenance to supervisor
  • Tire chain inspection and installation
  • Knowledge and assurance of dimension/permit requirements and assurance of compliance
  • Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, driver’s hours, occupational health and safety
  • Receive and relay information to dispatch
  • Plan travel schedules and routes
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Academic/Educational Requirements

  • Class 1 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement.

Other Certification, Licenses, Designations and/or Training

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and reliable personal vehicle.

Specific Job Skills and Level

  • Must be able to operate tractor/trailer unit in city traffic and on highways.
  • Perform trip inspections on equipment operated and loaded ensuring safety and road worthiness.
  • Perform pre-trip vehicle inspection to ensure that mechanical, safety and emergency equipment is in good order.
  • Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Operate 2-way radio.
  • Maintain daily logs, inspection logs and other necessary paperwork.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of construction site safety procedures.
  • Relevant safety certifications (e.g., WHMIS, First Aid) are an asset.

Minimum Level of Experience

  • Experience loading, unloading, securing and transporting various types of material/equipment.

Working Conditions

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lb.
  • Travel to the site, and off-site locations will be required.
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
  • Interacts with the public, customers, employees and management.
  • Hazards associated with trade.
  • Will be exposed to construction sites.
  • Will work in all weather conditions.
  • Overtime as required.
