Job Description – Quality Controller

Job Summary

The Quality Controller is responsible for verifying that centrifuge components, in-process repair work, and completed assemblies at our Kitchener facility meet engineering specifications, customer requirements, and Sentrimax's ISO 9001:2015 quality management standards. Working closely with our machining, welding, and field service teams, the Quality Controller inspects parts throughout the disassembly, repair, and reassembly process, documents findings, and supports continuous improvement in shop quality and first-pass yield.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process and final inspections of centrifuge components and assemblies (rotors, bowls, scrolls, gearboxes, bearings, and shafts) using precision measurement equipment, including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and bore gauges.
  • Verify dimensional tolerances and specifications against engineering drawings, OEM specifications, and customer purchase orders throughout disassembly, machining, welding, and reassembly.
  • Inspect incoming parts, materials, and vendor-supplied components for conformance prior to use in repair and overhaul jobs.
  • Operate a forklift safely to move and store parts.
  • Properly store and organize parts in designated areas.
  • Identify parts requiring repair and flag them accordingly.
  • Prepare required documentation and coordinate necessary repairs with third-party service providers.
  • Document inspection results, non-conformances, and corrective actions in accordance with Sentrimax's ISO 9001:2015 quality management system (QMS).
  • Identify and tag non-conforming parts or workmanship; initiate and track non-conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective/preventive actions (CAPAs).
  • Support root cause analysis for quality issues identified during shop repairs, reassembly, or field installation.
  • Conduct final quality checks and sign-off prior to reassembly, painting, and shipment of centrifuges back to customers.
  • Maintain calibration records and schedules for inspection and measurement equipment.
  • Assist with internal audits and support external ISO 9001:2015 surveillance and recertification audits.
  • Collaborate with machinists, welders, millwrights, and the service team to resolve quality concerns and prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain accurate, organized quality documentation and job files in Sentrimax's ERP system (AIMS).
  • Participate in continuous improvement (Kaizen) initiatives to reduce rework and improve first-pass yield.
  • Follow all workplace health and safety requirements while performing inspections in and around active machine shop operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education or diploma in Quality Assurance, Machining, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a quality control or inspection role within a machine shop, manufacturing, or MRO environment; experience with rotating equipment (centrifuges, gearboxes) is an asset.
  • Extensive hands-on experience measuring with a micrometer is required; candidates without this experience will not be considered.

  • Familiarity with machining, welding, and mechanical assembly processes and common defect types.
