EMS User Interface Support Analyst 1

What you'll do

  • Develops and maintains EMS Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) one-line displays, generation displays,
overviews of transmission displays for all regions of BC and neighbouring US and Alberta regions for Real Time Operations
(RTO) and Reliability Coordination Operations (RCO) staff. Implements displays for advanced study and data simulations
by Real Time Systems (RTS), RCO and Operations Planning.

  • Analyzes EMS WebFG user interface (UI) requirements from BCH System Control, RTS, RCO and Operations Planning
staff. Develops a variety of essential UI elements of EMS displays such as pictures, symbols, shared Graphic Attribute
Bundle (GAB), Conditional Attribute Modifier (CAM), conditional text, and control pop-up menus. Configures and revises
drop down menus, toolbar, shared rooms, charts for WebFG servers to meet specialized operation requirements of RTO,
RCO, BCH System Control, RTS and Operations Planning staff.

  • Develops specialized EMS displays for the use of Communication, Protection & Control (CPC) Technologists in lab
testing, field device commissioning, remote terminal unit (RTU) replacing/upgrading, during which activities CPC
Technologists confirm that the BCH EMS WebFG user interface has correct analog readings, measurements, status, and
control of power equipment from BCH transmission, distribution, and generation facilities including SCADA enabled
Distribution Automation devices located outside BCH facilities. Develops and implements EMS UI custom control
functionality to meet the requirements of generation/transmission/distribution engineering new technology/architecture.

  • Consults with RTO, BCH System Control, RCO and RTS staff, CPC Technologists and EMS vendor engineers to develop,
revise and enhance EMS WebFG displays. Reviews new or revised EMS WebFG displays to ensure reliability, safety and
adherence to BCH display standards and procedures.

  • Demonstrates WebFG operating features, capabilities to RTO, BCH System Control, RCO, RTS and Operations Planning
engineers.

  • Addresses users’ requests for EMS WebFG UI enhancements by: analyzing UI change requests to determine impact of
proposed changes in production systems; researching and assessing capabilities of EMS UI applications and providing
recommendations for possible implementation of proposed changes; modifying existing EMS displays and testing proposed
changes in quality assurance systems; and implementing approved UI changes in production systems.

  • Ensures EMS display quality by identifying database linkage errors on the quality assurance systems. Relinks missing
application database linkages on BCH EMS displays after weekly database failover.

  • Modifies the EMS SCADA database to create/remove manually entered switching devices for use by the System Control
staff. Creates new switching devices in the SCADA database as per updated engineering one-lines that are used by the
control room to display the current state of the device and place safety and information related tags on the equipment.
Coordinates with System Control and RCO staff when adding the new manually entered switching devices to the production
operating one-lines to ensure proper state.

  • Performs a variety of operating functions for the WebFG display building workstation such as: sets up vendor WebFG
Builder software; maintains workstation in optimum operative condition by ensuring the installation of the required vendor
patches and releases as instructed by the EMS User Interface Analyst 3; and sets up the EMS UI compiling scripts and
uploading scripts on the workstation.

  • Records and reports vendor EMS WebFG Builder software problems/bugs to EMS User Interface Analyst 2 for review.

  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.

What you bring

  • Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology or a related technical field from an accredited college or an
Institute of Technology.
