Position Summary:
Reporting to the manager of IHS Wellness, the Disability Case Manager (DCM) is responsible for the proactive and expert management of short-term disability (STD), Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims as well as bridging long-term disability (LTD) files from STD. The DCM collaborates with managers and other key partners in planning and supporting return-to work. As a member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team of professionals, your expertise in this field will enable you to act as an important contributor to discussions regarding workplace disability related issues. 

Short Term Disability Case Manager Responsibilities:

• Delivery of Short-Term Disability (STD) Case Management Services.
• Manage non-occupational absences >15 days and WSIB claims from day one.
• Determine benefit eligibility and request medical documentation.
• Lead return-to-work planning and accommodation processes.
• Develop effective and sustainable return to work plans.
• In collaboration with the client’s managers and human resources business partners, regularly monitor and adjust the progress of all return-to-work cases to resolve emerging issues.
• Attend bi-weekly meetings and support legal proceedings.
• Contact clients in a timely manner upon receiving a referral.
• Contact the injured/absent employee shortly in a timely manner and on a regular basis.
• Provide a decision on claim status in a timely manner aligned with contractual service level agreements.
• Notify the customer/employer of legal claims.
• Provide support to employee’s manager/supervisor and client’s Human Resources (HR) team regarding case management, disability and accommodation.
• Diplomatically resolve conflict in an effective and collaborative manner.
• Interpret and educate the client’s managers on a variety of regulatory and compliance requirements to ensure that case management practices are applied in accordance with legislation, regulation and clients’ policies.
• Make referrals to appropriate resources such as EFAP provider, the client’s Occupational Health Physician, or Ergonomic Consultant, as required.
• Collaborate and liaise with other members of WSIB, LTD carriers and the client’s Health & Safety team.
• Act as liaison, mentor and coach regarding disability claims to both internal and external Partners.
• Maintain and respect confidential information, objectively and accurately document case history, strategy and case management plan.
• Accountable for regularly collecting maintaining and reporting statistics regarding for STD and LTD, proactively identify trends.

Credentials and Professional Training:

• Regulated health professional preferred but is not mandatory
• Experience in:  Occupational health case management, Short-term disability claims management, WSIB and Human Rights proceedings, Return-to-work planning, Collaboration with legal and HR teams

Key Qualifications:

• Certified Disability Management Professional or Certified Return to Work Coordinator credential is preferred but not mandatory.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in disability case management.
• Demonstrated expertise and experience with return-to-work planning, long term disability contracts, collective agreements, and attendance and accommodation programs in a large and diverse organizational environment.
• Working knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Ontario Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act).
• Knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act is an asset.
• Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
• Excellent communication, organization, and presentation skills.
• Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, HRIS); able to create and generate reports as required.
• Superior assessment and problem-solving skills.

Compensation: The rate is commensurate with experience and is paid hourly based on the number of hours worked. As this is a casual position, there are no fixed or guaranteed hours.

Location:
The Disability Case Manager will be working at 2381 Bristol Circle, Oakville or at the West Toronto location at 150 Sherway Drive as directed by THP at its sole discretion although there may be some opportunity for flexible work environments.
