About Us

Catapulta Contracting Inc. is a Calgary-based general contractor delivering conventional and pre-fabrication construction projects in the residential, commercial, institutional, and infrastructure markets across Western Canada. We specialise in metal cladding and signage facade systems, and work under a Build & Operate delivery model that keeps us involved from first estimate through to operational handover.

Our sister company, Alteus Building Systems Inc., manufactures and installs prefabricated superstructure components and cold formed steel. Our commitment to innovative delivery methods, including the Build & Operate (B&O) framework, sets us apart in the Calgary market.

About the Role

We are looking for an Estimator to join our team and take ownership of bids across both companies. Each Estimator in the section owns their own bids from end-to-end, from drawing review through to submission, on projects spanning conventional general contracting and prefabricated cold-formed steel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare complete quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
  • Review tender drawings and specifications, identify scope gaps, and raise clarifying RFIs.
  • Solicit and level subcontractor and supplier quotes, normalising inclusions and exclusions so comparisons are genuine.
  • Build and maintain scope sheets and bid documentation to a consistent standard.
  • Develop value engineering options with quantified cost and schedule impacts as well as supporting pre-construction planning.
  • Maintain and update our cost database with current market pricing and as-awarded rates.
  • Use Stack B&O to carry estimating information through to project delivery such that scope, budget and procurement data stays connected from award to closeout.
  • Work with our prefab team to incorporate cold-formed steel component pricing and lead times into bids.
  • Carry out post-bid reconciliation, compare estimated against awarded, and capture variances for analysis.
  • Hand estimates off cleanly to the project delivery team so the field has what it needs to execute.
  • Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and consultants across the Calgary market.

Qualifications

Required

  • Three or more years of estimating experience in construction, ideally with a general contractor.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency with construction takeoff software and cloud-based estimating and coordination platforms. inexperience with Stack CT and Stack B&O, or related platforms is required.
  • Comfortable working in cloud-based platforms for project documentation, including RFIs, submittals and change orders.
  • Strong Excel skills and to effectively work with cost data.
  • Solid understanding of construction methods, materials and sequencing.
  • Clear written and verbal communication. The successful candidate will be corresponding with trades, suppliers and consultants daily.
  • Well organised, with the discipline to close work out effectively and efficiently.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.

Considered an asset

  • Experience estimating cold-formed steel, prefabrication or modular construction.
  • Experience working within a Build & Operate (B&O) delivery model.
  • Knowledge of the Calgary and Alberta subcontractor and supplier market.
  • Post-secondary education in construction management, engineering technology, quantity surveying or a related field.
  • Experience with metal cladding or facade systems.
  • Gold Seal certification or progress toward it.
