Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and safety-driven Maintenance Planner to support our maintenance department at Cariboo Gold Mine. The Maintenance Planner is responsible for developing, coordinating, and continuously improving the maintenance planning and scheduling process for mobile, fixed, electrical, and ancillary equipment. The role ensures maintenance activities are properly planned, resourced, scheduled, executed, and documented to maximize equipment availability, reliability, safety, and operational performance.

The Maintenance Planner works closely with the Maintenance Manager, Supervisors, Mechanics, Electricians, Operations, Procurement, Warehouse, and Health & Safety personnel to establish effective preventive and predictive maintenance programs.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

· Identify maintenance tasks requiring:

· Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)

· Energy isolation

· Ground control considerations

· Electrical hazards

·Stored energy

· Mobile equipment hazards

·Working-at-height requirements

· Confined-space requirements

· Hot work requirements

· Other task-specific hazards

· Ensure maintenance procedures and job plans include appropriate safety controls and required PPE.

· Review maintenance history and failures to identify recurring safety-related deficiencies.

· Development, review and revision of equipment-specific Standard Operating Procedures, and maintenance procedures

· Ensure statutory inspections and regulatory maintenance requirements are incorporated into the maintenance schedule.

· Maintain accurate records demonstrating completion of required inspections, services, repairs, and certifications.

· Participate in incident and near-miss investigations where equipment reliability or maintenance may be a contributing factor.

· Identify opportunities to eliminate hazards through engineering controls, improved maintenance practices, or equipment modifications.

· Promote a proactive safety culture within the maintenance department.

· Stop or escalate maintenance planning activities where adequate resources, procedures, or safety controls are not available.

Strategic & Operational Maintenance

The Maintenance Planner is responsible for translating the site's maintenance strategy into practical, executable maintenance plans and schedules.

Strategic Maintenance

· Develop, maintain and execute a comprehensive and predictive maintenance program

· Establish appropriate preventive, predictive, condition-based, and corrective maintenance intervals.

· Maintenance program shall target and 85% equipment availability or better

· Track and publish equipment performance metrics (e.g., MTBF, MTTR, Mechanical Availability) and drive continuous improvement initiatives

· Review OEM maintenance requirements and adapt them to site operating conditions.

· Develop and maintain equipment maintenance standards based on:

• Operating hours
• Equipment utilization
• Environmental conditions
• Failure history
• Manufacturer recommendations
• Equipment criticality

· Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and reduce repeat failures.

· Develop reliability-centered maintenance strategies where appropriate.

· Oversee the effective use of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track work orders, inventory, and historical data

· Review equipment lifecycle requirements and provide input into replacement and capital planning.

· Identify recurring failures and recommend corrective actions

Operation Maintenance

· Develop weekly and monthly maintenance schedules

· Build detailed job plans for planned maintenance activities

· Ensure work order are completed fully and correctly:

• Job / repair description
• Required labor
• Duration
• Required parts
• Safety requirements
• Technical procedures
• OEM references

· Coordinate planned maintenance activities with Operations to minimize production interruptions

· Maintain an effective backlog management process

· Prioritize work based on equipment criticality, safety, production requirements, and available resources

· Coordinate shutdown and major maintenance activities

· Ensure planned work is properly scheduled before being assigned to maintenance personnel

· Review completed work orders and capture information required to improve future maintenance planning

· Analyze equipment downtime and maintenance history to identify trends

· Ensure preventive maintenance tasks are adjusted when data demonstrates that current intervals are ineffective

· Support emergency and breakdown maintenance when required, while maintaining focus on returning reactive work to the planned maintenance system

Leadership & Team Management

Although the Maintenance Planner may not have direct supervisory responsibility, the position is expected to demonstrate strong leadership and coordination skills.

· Work collaboratively with Maintenance Manager, Master Mechanics, Mine Superintendent, Engineering, Warehouse, and Health & Safety

· Establish strong communication between planning and execution teams

· Facilitate weekly maintenance planning and scheduling meetings

· Ensure maintenance department understands upcoming planned work

· Engage mechanics, electricians, operators, and subject-matter experts when developing job plans

· Capture field knowledge and incorporate lessons learned into maintenance procedures

· Support supervisors in identifying required resources and constraints before work is scheduled

· Provide clear and accurate information to management regarding maintenance workload, backlog, equipment condition, and resource requirements

· Promote accountability for completion of planned maintenance activities

· Encourage a culture of continuous improvement and proactive maintenance

· Maintain professional relationships with contractors and vendors involved in maintenance activities

· Communicate schedule changes, equipment constraints, and critical maintenance issues promptly

Budget & Resource Management

· Identify labor requirements for scheduled maintenance

· Estimate parts and consumables and ensure required stock

· Monitor planned versus actual maintenance costs

· Identify cost trends and opportunities for improvement

· Track lifecycle cost analysis for major equipment

· Identify resource constraints before work is scheduled

· Coordinate contractors and specialty service providers as required

· Ensure major maintenance activities are properly scoped and resourced before execution

· Track maintenance expenditures and compare to industry standards

· Identify opportunities to reduce costs without compromising safety, reliability, or regulatory compliance.

Inventory and Procurement

· Identify parts and materials for a robust stock

· Utilize Maintain X to track part use allocation and inventor

· Review parts consumption and historical usage

· Identify critical spare parts and input appropriate minimum/maximum inventory levels within Maintain X

· Obtain quotes and submit Request for Purchase Order inventory depletes or required repairs

· Track delivered Purchase Orders in Maintain X

· Identify obsolete, excess, or slow-moving maintenance inventory

· Ensure parts are correctly identified by:

• Part number
• Description
• Supplier
• Equipment application

· Ensure replacement parts are suitable for the intended equipment and application

· Recommend / identify alternatives when parts are unavailable

· Support standardization of commonly used components across the equipment fleet

· Maintain accurate records of parts used during major maintenance activities

· Develop rebuild program of major components (axles, pump, cylinders)

• Reduce obsolete inventory

Pay: From $65.00 per hour

Expected hours: 84.0 per week

Experience:

• Mechanical knowledge: 10 years (preferred)
• Management: 2 years (required)
