Full job description

Our craft brewery is looking for a creative, passionate and energetic Sous Chef in Abbotsford, BC. As Sous Chef, you'll work closely with the Head Chef to ensure success of day-to-day operations of the kitchen. You will lead a team of driven employees and drive their development. We are looking for a confident leader with great organizational skills and impeccable time management. Staying current with food trends related to the craft beer industry is key as there is an element of menu development required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee kitchen responsibilities and ensure procedures are followed
  • Manage staff, control costs, quality of food, and safety standards with assistance and guidance from our Head Chef
  • Foster a safe and healthy working environment with professionalism
  • Rectify any issues arising concerning kitchen staff, food complaints, and safety issues with support from your General Manager and Head Chef

Cost Control & Top Line Growth

  • Strong understanding of financial management and COGs
  • Working knowledge of POS and inventory systems
  • Monitor increases in pricing and quality of incoming products, reporting discrepancies as needed
  • Manage and maintain strong relationships with vendors

Facility Management & Maintenance

  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is kept clean and in good working order
  • Keep all Food Safety plans up to date
  • Ensure all kitchen checklists are followed, completed, and signed off daily

Staffing & Scheduling

  • Ensure all training manuals and policies are kept up to date and followed by all
  • Generate BOH schedules within labour budgets based on business volume
  • Hire, onboard, and train all new kitchen employees
  • Approve and submit payroll details on a weekly basis
  • Manage employee performance through formal and informal feedback
  • Work with General Manager and People/Culture Advisor when taking progressive disciplinary action

Experience Required:

  • Minimum 3 years in a BOH role
  • Minimum 1 year in a BOH Leadership role
  • Current Food Safe certification
