Full job description

About the Role

Circles & Squares is looking for an experienced, hands-on Millwright Mechanic to support our growing group of bakeries, cafes, and restaurant locations.

This role is responsible for keeping our production equipment and facilities operating safely, efficiently, and reliably. You will play an important role in maintaining equipment, responding to breakdowns, supporting facility needs, and developing preventative maintenance systems across our locations.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is resourceful, highly organized, and solutions-focused. You are comfortable managing multiple priorities, responding to urgent needs, communicating across departments, and working independently with minimal oversight.

This position involves travel between locations and flexibility to respond to emergency breakdowns outside regular operating hours.

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain bakery, food-processing, and packaging equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, vacuum, power-transmission, and basic electrical issues.
  • Repair or replace defective parts and make adjustments to improve equipment safety, reliability, and performance.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings.
  • Fabricate or modify parts using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, lathes, and milling machines.
  • Develop, manage, and execute the company’s preventive maintenance program.
  • Coordinate maintenance windows with management to minimize disruption to production.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide after-hours support when required.
  • Direct, mentor, and delegate work to the Maintenance Assistant based on operational priorities.
  • Maintain critical spare-parts inventory and reorder mechanical components and shop supplies as needed.
  • Complete work orders and maintain accurate maintenance logs and equipment service histories.
  • Handle basic facility maintenance and plumbing repairs when needed to keep locations operational.
  • Support equipment installations, improvement projects, and general facility needs across all locations.
  • Follow all food-safety, health and safety, environmental, and company policies.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free from debris or hazards.
  • Perform other maintenance-related duties as required.

What We're Looking For

  • Valid Ontario Industrial Mechanic Millwright Certificate of Qualification (433A); Red Seal endorsement is preferred.
  • Minimum four years of industrial mechanical experience; food manufacturing or bakery experience is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, power transmission, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
  • Working knowledge of electrical troubleshooting, programmable logic controls, and equipment installations.
  • Experience with machine-shop practices, including lathes and milling machines.
  • Welding experience, including ARC, TIG, and MIG.
  • Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive self-starter who can work independently and take ownership of priorities.
  • Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel between locations using company vehicles.
  • Ability to lead and support a small maintenance team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work safely in active production environments.
  • Comfortable working in warm production areas and varying temperatures.

Schedule & Availability

This is a full-time position, primarily Monday–Friday, with flexibility required to work early mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends as operationally required.

Participation in an on-call rotation for emergency breakdowns is required.

Why Join Circles & Squares?

This is an opportunity to take ownership of maintenance across a growing group of food businesses and help build stronger maintenance systems as the company continues to expand.

If you are an experienced industrial mechanic looking for a hands-on role with variety, responsibility, independence, and room to grow, we would love to hear from you.

Join Circles & Squares and play an important role in keeping our operations running safely and efficiently.
