Supervisor: Denise Ribeiro, Community House Coordinator

Days and Hours:
  • Monday 1- 3 pm
  • Tuesday 9 am - 12 pm

Volunteers:
At PQCHC, volunteers and staff are considered partners and work in collaboration to uphold the Centre’s principles, values, and mission. They contribute unique knowledge; experiences and skills that help PQCHC to better connect with Ottawa’s west end community, reflect its diversity and serve its specific needs.

Morrison Gardens Community House:
Morrison Gardens is 1 of 5 Community Houses run by Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre (PQCHC). A Community House is one or two housing units in an Ottawa Community Housing (OCH) neighborhood that provides free programs and services to those individuals and families living in the area. Morrison Gardens Community House runs a variety of programs including a grocery store model food bank, After 4 Programming, and Coffee and Chat.
Volunteer Summary
The volunteer will support the food bank at Morrison Gardens on either Mondays or Tuesdays. They will work alongside staff, other volunteers, and students.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in serving food bank clients
  • Organize and store items on shelves
  • Bag bulk items (rice, flour, sugar, etc.)
  • Sweep the floors
  • Dispose of garbage
Qualifications:
  • People-oriented
  • Reliable
  • Bilingual proficiency (English and French or Arabic) is preferred
  • Racialized individuals, Indigenous people, and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community are encouraged to apply
All volunteers must go through screening, onboarding, and training. A Police Record Check (level 1) is required for volunteering with PQCHC. A letter will be provided to support your request for a check.
