The Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation (CRHF) is committed to enhancing healthcare for Southern Albertans by funding advanced medical equipment, innovative programs, and compassionate patient care. Through the generosity of donors, sponsors, businesses, community partners, and volunteers, we help ensure world-class care is available close to home.
As the Foundation continues to grow, we are expanding our development team to support increasing philanthropic opportunities across Southern Alberta. This new position reflects that growth and the need to continue building meaningful relationships with individuals, corporations, businesses, foundations, and community partners.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Major Gift Officer to join our fundraising team. This role is ideal for a strong relationship builder with a passion for philanthropy, corporate partnerships, community engagement, and donor-centred fundraising.
Position Summary
The Major Gift Officer manages a portfolio of individual, corporate, business, and foundation donors and prospects capable of making gifts of $10,000–$1M+. This role focuses on building relationships, developing proposals, and securing significant philanthropic support for the Foundation’s strategic priorities and campaigns.
While the role includes individual major gift fundraising, it will have a strong focus on corporate and business relationships, sponsorship-aligned giving, community partnerships, and strategic engagement across Southern Alberta.
Key Accountabilities
Donor, Corporate and Community Relationship Building
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 100–120 qualified donors and prospects.
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward individual, corporate, business, foundation, and community donors.
- Build strong relationships with business owners, corporate leaders, executives, community partners, and key decision-makers.
- Develop moves management plans that align donor interests with Foundation priorities and community impact.
- Represent the Foundation at donor meetings, business meetings, networking opportunities, community events, and partner activities.
Corporate Giving and Partnership Development
- Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate and business prospects.
- Coordinate corporate relationships across major gifts, sponsorship, events, annual giving, lotteries, and stewardship.
- Support customized corporate proposals and partnership opportunities.
- Maintain strong knowledge of the Southern Alberta business community.
Proposal, Pipeline and Reporting
- Draft and edit proposals, impact reports, briefing notes, case materials, and donor communications.
- Translate healthcare priorities and campaign needs into clear, donor-centred opportunities for investment.
- Build and manage a pipeline of individual, corporate, business, foundation, and community prospects.
- Track next steps, proposals, asks, commitments, and stewardship activity in the CRM system.
- Generate reports to track portfolio activity, pipeline movement, fundraising progress, and revenue.
Performance and Portfolio Management
- Maintain personal fundraising metrics, including donor meetings, corporate meetings, proposals, solicitations, stewardship activity, and revenue goals.
- Track progress toward annual fundraising targets and portfolio objectives.
- Provide regular updates on pipeline activity, donor movement, risks, and opportunities.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of engagement activities.
Program, Event and Team Support
- Support fundraising programs, corporate engagement strategies, campaign priorities, and signature events.
- Participate in community events, campaign announcements, donor recognition activities, tours, cheque presentations, and partner engagement opportunities.
- Work closely with colleagues in major gifts, annual giving, events, lotteries, marketing, stewardship, finance, and leadership to support integrated donor strategies.
- Coordinate corporate and business relationships with the Events and Partnerships Development Specialist to align sponsorship, events, and major gift opportunities.
- Contribute to a collaborative, donor-focused culture of philanthropy and excellence.
Required Knowledge, Experience and Competencies
- University degree in fundraising, communications, marketing, business, nonprofit leadership, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience in fundraising, business development, sponsorship, corporate partnerships, communications, marketing, or another relationship-based role.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with donors, businesses, corporate leaders, volunteers, and senior decision-makers.
- Experience cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts or partnerships in the $10,000+ range.
- Strong understanding of donor-centred fundraising, corporate engagement, community relations, and relationship management.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, project management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to develop persuasive proposals, presentations, briefing materials, and impact reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge CRM or similar donor management software.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel locally or regionally as required.
Assets
- CFRE designation or progress toward CFRE certification.
- Experience in healthcare philanthropy.
- Experience with corporate donors, sponsorships, business development, or community investment programs.
- Knowledge of the Southern Alberta business and philanthropic community.
- Experience with campaign fundraising, donor events, stewardship activities, tours, or community presentations.

Work Environment
This is a relationship-focused role that requires professionalism, adaptability, initiative, and strong follow-through. The role is primarily office-based, with regular meetings in the community, donor visits, Foundation events, hospital tours, and occasional evening or weekend commitments.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a growing, fast-paced Foundation environment.
