About the Role:

The Community Disability Support Worker plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities by providing personalized care and support within their community settings. This position focuses on promoting independence, social inclusion, and well-being through tailored assistance that respects each individual's unique needs and preferences. The role requires building trusting relationships with clients, their families, and other care professionals to ensure a holistic approach to support. The successful candidate will facilitate daily living activities, encourage skill development, and advocate for client rights and access to community resources. Ultimately, this role contributes to empowering individuals with disabilities to lead fulfilling and autonomous lives within their communities.

Currently we have full-time, part-time and casual positions supporting individuals with developmental disabilities living in a residential home.

There is a variety of shifts including days, evenings, nights and every other weekend rotation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Clear criminal record check including vulnerable sector screening.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals with disabilities in a community or residential setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Social Work, Psychology, or Human Services.
  • Experience with behavior management techniques and positive support strategies.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies related to disability services in Canada.
  • Training in medication administration and health care support.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct personal care and support to individuals with disabilities, including assistance with daily living activities such as hygiene, meal preparation, and mobility.
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans in collaboration with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to meet specific goals and needs.
  • Facilitate social, recreational, and community participation opportunities to promote inclusion and skill development.
  • Monitor and document client progress, health status, and any changes in needs, reporting concerns promptly to supervisors or healthcare professionals.
  • Advocate for clients’ rights and access to community services, ensuring their voices are heard and respected in all aspects of care.
