JOB DESCRIPTION

Family Support Worker

Job Summary: Provides supportive access to children, youth, parents and/or family including crisis intervention, behaviour management, and life skills either one to one or in a group environment. Will attend the family home and provide weekly intense support and guidance to parents, youth, and children.

Reports to: Manager

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintains a high level of professionalism and teamwork at all times

Maintains a high level of confidentiality at all times.

Acts as a positive role model for parents, children, and youth, providing life skills training and behaviour management, both in one-to-one and group situations.

Maintains necessary client, and court reports, ensures that all documentation is accurate and complete.

Identifies social, economic, recreational, counselling, and educational services in the community that will meet the needs of parents, children, youths, and/or families.

Continuous liaising with other agencies, professionals, and the community.

Monitors clients’ progress and well-being and assists the case management team in evaluating the effectiveness of the goals.

Demonstrated ability to role model and teach a wide variety of life skills in relation to infants, children, and youth.

Time management skills

Gathers information relevant to the client’s concerns, needs and risks by interviewing, observing behaviour, meeting with the caregivers and service providers and using a variety of inventories.Highly effective interpersonal communication skills, including written and verbal.

Provides support, guidance and problem-solving to clients to address issues related to family functioning in an individual or group setting using the above skill set. Basic group counselling skills.

Provides input to the integrated case management team for the development of client service plans.

Participates in regular integrated case management meetings to report clients’ activities and progress.

Plans and conducts family group educational sessions on topics related to family functioning.

Performs other related duties as required.

Attend all staff meetings.

Adhere to the Code of Ethics

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Knowledge:

· A degree in Child and Youth Care or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Knowledge of theory, principles, and practices in the field, i.e., family dynamics, mental health and suicide risk assessment, conflict resolution, addiction theory, and trauma-informed practice.

· Effectively able to build relationships and nurture an environment of quality, trauma-informed and culturally safe space.

Training and Experience:

· Previous direct program delivery experience (at least 2 years) in the community social services sector with knowledge of specific community-based programs and related provincial and community support is required. Demonstrated delivery of family dynamic programs in a community environment.

3-month probation period

Job Type: Part-time
