South Island Wellness Society (SIWS) is looking for their next Collaborative Facilitator. We use traditional decision-making processes to support community-based collaborative planning for Indigenous families who need assistance addressing concerns about the care of their children. In addition, we provide 1:1 adult support, 1:1 youth support, cultural connections, family finding, and our Elder’s program.

The Collaborative Facilitator’s primary focus is to facilitate collaborative meetings with Indigenous families and the Ministry of Child and Family Development and other delegated agencies. This may include but not limited to Family Case Planning Conferences [FCPC], Family Group Conferences [FGC], Cultural Connection Plans [CCP], Permanency Plans, Care Plans, and Youth Transition Conferences [YTC]. The Collaborative Facilitator will work directly with Indigenous families and other social service providers to develop plans.

*Please note this is a 12-month contract that may result in permanent full-time employment based on performance and continued funding.

Preference will be given to applicants of Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and Metis) ancestry as per Section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code, please self-identify.

Duties

· Practice and utilise decolonial approaches that support and uplift communities

· Work collaboratively with service providers that may include but not limited to MCFD, Surrounded by Cedar Child and Family Services [SCCFS], and NIL TU,O to support families with developing plans to address child safety concerns for children, youth and families. These plans include options that involve building connections for children and/or youth to their nations, culture, and wellbeing, as well as finding out of care options where children return to safe family and communities

· Respond to referrals and facilitate collaborative meetings that are child centered, strength-based, trauma-informed and family focused

· Assess referrals and case situations to determine if and what collaborative meetings are appropriate

· Connect with all participants including children, youth, family, extended family, band designates and community service providers involved with the family such as social workers, lawyers, doctors and other workers

· Prepare families and participants for productive collaborative participation in meetings

· Assess and navigate conflict and complicated dynamics at collaborative meetings by responding appropriately to the needs of the situation

· Assist with creating Family Plans that promote the reunification of children and youth with family, and/or develop alternate permanency plans for children and youth to return to extended family or communities

· Assist with creating Care Plans that promote the wellbeing of the children and/or youth while in care of MCFD

· Collaborate and work with families or service providers facing challenges which may occasionally result in intense and heightened emotions and feelings

· Collaborate and work with families who have been exposed to abuse, neglect and other harmful situations

· Collaborate and work with children, youth, and families impacted by historical and ongoing colonial violence

· Take notes of collaborative meetings and summarize complex and difficult conversations to create collaborative goals and action items

· Maintain confidentiality

· Maintain electronic client files (referrals, case notes, meetings notes, contact list, etc.)

· Create genograms

· Work independently and with the team

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or other Social Services related program, OR related discipline and 2-4 years experience in delivery of Social Services associated with Child and Family Services. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

· Must be familiar with Indigenous history, customs, and practices

· Must have 1+ years experience and knowledge working with First Nations and Indigenous communities

· Prior facilitation experience required

· Conflict resolution skills required

· Effective problem-solving skills, strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask

· Ability to work with vulnerable persons in a positive, trauma-informed manner which create a sense of safety, trust, and respect

· Strong team player and positive nature

· Knowledge of the dynamics of power, abuse, and neglect

· Ability to maintain confidentiality

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Knowledge of Child and Family Services Legislation or the ability to develop this understanding quickly

· Acceptable criminal record check & valid BC Driver’s License with acceptable drivers abstract and access to reliable vehicle
