Mental Health & Addictions (NNADAP) Worker
Department: Health & Wellness
Reports To: Health Director
Employment Type: Part-Time (21 hours per week, flexible based on operational needs)
Location: ?Esdilagh First Nation Band Office, with travel throughout the community and surrounding service areas as required.

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Mental Health & Addictions (NNADAP) Worker to provide culturally appropriate mental health and addictions support to community members while promoting prevention, education, healing, and recovery.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Health Director, the Mental Health & Addictions (NNADAP) Worker provides direct support to individuals, families, and youth experiencing mental health and substance use challenges. The Worker delivers prevention programming, early intervention, community education, referrals, case coordination, and ongoing recovery support while promoting culturally grounded healing and wellness.
Working collaboratively with internal departments, healthcare providers, Indigenous organizations, and community partners, the NNADAP Worker helps community members access the supports they need to improve their overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Mental Health & Addictions Support
- Provide confidential support, advocacy, and case management to community members experiencing mental health and substance use challenges.
- Conduct client intake and wellness assessments to identify needs and appropriate supports.
- Develop individualized wellness and recovery plans in partnership with clients.
- Support individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, substance use, and other mental health concerns.
- Provide crisis intervention and emotional support within the scope of the position.
Prevention & Community Wellness
- Plan and deliver community education sessions focused on mental wellness, substance use prevention, suicide awareness, healthy relationships, stress management, and resilience.
- Promote healthy lifestyles and early intervention strategies.
- Coordinate wellness activities, support groups, and community healing initiatives.
- Encourage participation in culturally grounded healing activities alongside Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
Referrals & Case Coordination
- Coordinate referrals to detoxification programs, treatment centres, mental health professionals, physicians, psychiatrists, and other specialized services.
- Support clients before, during, and following treatment or recovery programs.
- Assist community members in navigating healthcare and community support systems.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with FNHA, Indigenous Services Canada, Northern Health, treatment facilities, and other service providers.
Community Engagement
- Participate in community events promoting wellness and healthy living.
- Build trusting relationships with children, youth, adults, Elders, and families.
- Increase awareness of available mental health and addictions resources within the community.
Administration
- Maintain accurate, confidential client records and case notes.
- Prepare reports and statistics required under the National Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program (NNADAP) and other funding agreements.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, privacy legislation, and professional standards.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Human Services, Addictions Counselling, Mental Health, or a related field.
- Registration with a professional regulatory body is considered an asset.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience providing mental health, addictions, or community wellness services.
- Knowledge of Indigenous approaches to healing and wellness.
- Experience working with First Nations communities is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice, harm reduction, recovery-oriented care, and crisis intervention.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Preference will be given to candidates with training or certification in one or more of the following:
- Mental Health First Aid
- ASIST or SafeTALK
- Trauma-Informed Practice
- Indigenous Cultural Safety
- Motivational Interviewing
- Substance Use and Addictions Counselling
- Harm Reduction
- Crisis Intervention
- Naloxone Administration
