Can you picture yourself making a lasting impact on someone’s life, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their dreams along the way? We are looking for an energetic and dedicated individual to join our thriving Respite program. If you are motivated by play, creativity, and the opportunity to help minds grow, this role is for you!
This role requires a valid Alberta driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with current Alberta registration and Alberta insurance, as you may need to transport clients to community activities and other engagements.
We offer flexible shift start times Monday through Sunday.
As a Respite & Centre for Supports Community Support Worker, you will play a key role in our support team by working directly with individuals with complex developmental disabilities. Your contributions will make a meaningful impact on their quality of life by engaging them in movement, sports, games, and outdoor activities. In collaboration with our team, you’ll provide outstanding support and care to both clients and their families, helping them achieve greater inclusion and structured routines.
At Entrust, our mission is to empower the individuals we serve while fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth. We are committed to creating a trust-based, high-performance, and results-driven environment. We believe that our success hinges on the continuous development of our Entrusters. Join us in transforming specialized care for individuals with complex developmental disabilities across North America.
What will you do?
- Facilitate Fun and Dynamic Activities: Lead engaging, creative, and developmentally enriching activities that captivate imaginations, support learning, and foster social and emotional growth.
- Personalized Support: Work closely with children, youth and adults, tailoring your approach to meet each individual's needs, and provide ongoing encouragement to help them thrive in a positive, supportive environment.
- Engage in Active Play: Participate in physical activities with them—running, jumping, bending, crouching—while ensuring a safe and energetic environment that encourages physical and motor skill development.
- Create a Fun, Learning-Focused Environment: Help cultivate an atmosphere where learning is fun, creativity is encouraged, and everyone feel safe, valued, and empowered to explore new skills.
- Plan and Join Outings: Take part in planned outings that enhance real-world experiences, offering new opportunities for growth outside the facility’s walls.
- Advocacy: Support individuals by ensuring their needs are met and their voices are heard, while promoting empowerment and respect for their choices.
- Personal Care: Provide dignified personal care, including assistance with daily hygiene, dressing, and mobility, while managing medication and addressing health concerns.
- Medical Support: Provide First Aid and administer medications as required to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Goal Support: Help individuals pursue their goals in employment, skill development, and leisure activities, ensuring these align with their interests and aspirations.
What are we looking for?
- Experience in Developmental Disabilities Support: At least 1-3 years of direct experience working with individuals with complex developmental disabilities (e.g., autism, intellectual disabilities, behavioral challenges).
- Behavioral Expertise: Demonstrated ability to support individuals in achieving personal goals and responding to behavioral needs, using adaptable and person-centered approaches.
- Crisis Management: Skilled in de-escalation techniques and managing challenging behaviors.
- Communication Proficiency: Strong verbal/non-verbal communication skills to interact with children using alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS, AAC).
- Driving Credentials: A valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license, along with a personal vehicle that has current Alberta registration and $2 million in third-party liability insurance for client transport, may be required.
- Education Requirements: A related degree or training in disabilities, sensory processing, and/or developmental assessments. Current First Aid and CPR certification (including pediatric care) is an asset.
- Employment Conditions: Job offers are contingent on providing proof of your legal eligibility to work in Canada. This includes:
- Identity Verification: You must provide proof of identity and legal authorization to work in the position for which you are hired.
- Required Documents: As part of the hiring process, you will need to submit the following documents, obtained within the last 3 months:
- Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector.
- Child & Youth Intervention Record Check.
- Intermediate First Aid / CPR Level C Certification.
These documents must meet Entrust's standards and are the candidate’s financial responsibility to obtain prior to hiring.
