Summary
The Electrical Apprentice’s primary function is to assist licensed electricians while learning to install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair industrial electrical equipment and associated electrical and electronic controls based on technical drawings, schematics, government regulations, and other documented specifications in a manufacturing environment.
All electrical work is performed under the supervision of licensed electricians while the employee progresses through the electrical apprenticeship program.
Afternoon Shift 4pm - 2:30am Monday- Thursday
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of licensed electricians:
1. Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications with guidance to determine the layout of industrial electrical equipment installations.
2. Install, examine, replace or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, network and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures, and other electrical components while assisting and learning under supervision.
3. Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance with supervision and training.
4. Maintain, repair, install and test switchgear, transformers, switchboard meters, regulators, electrical motors, generators, storage batteries, and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems as directed by licensed electricians.
5. Assist electricians with troubleshooting electrical systems and equipment.
6. Maintain and repair office and plant electrical equipment while receiving instruction and oversight from licensed electricians.
7. Conduct cyclical inventory counts on electrical parts.
8. Keep abreast and comply with Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) regulations and relevant codes and practices while developing knowledge and experience within the trade.
Job Specific Qualifications/ Knowledge/ Experience:
1. Registered electrical apprentice in good standing with Skilled Trades Ontario or eligible to register in an electrical apprenticeship program.
2. Working toward Construction & Maintenance (309A) or Industrial Electrician (442A) certification.
3. 0-3 years’ experience in an industrial or commercial environment preferred.
4. PLC Programming skills (basic level) would be considered an asset.
5. Ability to travel within North America with a valid passport and driver's license.
6. Power & Energy / Oil & Gas experience in an electrical engineering environment is an advantage.
7. Sound control panel knowledge, conduit, and other cable management hardware skills.
8. Scheduling, documenting, and technical support to Engineers is an asset.
9. Demonstrated willingness to learn and develop electrical trade skills.
