Position Summary
SBG is seeking an Associate Project Manager to join our growing team. This role provides an opportunity for professional growth within the organization, combining hands-on site supervision with involvement in project estimating, scheduling, and coordination. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest standards of quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct construction workers, installers, helpers and labourers involved in demolition, drywall, painting, flooring, glazing, roofing, tile setting, concrete and other construction activities.
  • Assign and schedule daily work activities based on project priorities, manpower, site conditions and construction schedules.
  • Supervise construction activities across multiple active school and institutional renovation sites simultaneously.
  • Review and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings, specifications and construction details and provide appropriate field direction.
  • Establish work methods and construction sequencing and provide clear instructions to workers regarding execution, quality and completion requirements.
  • Inspect ongoing and completed work for workmanship, quality and compliance with drawings and specifications.
  • Resolve day-to-day construction issues and deficiencies and direct workers on required corrective actions.
  • Supervise work within occupied schools and institutional facilities while complying with site access, phasing, safety and operational requirements.
  • Determine and requisition required construction materials, tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure workers follow established site procedures and applicable health and safety requirements.
  • Prepare progress records, inspection reports and deficiency lists and provide regular updates to the Senior Project Manager regarding progress, manpower, materials, deficiencies and site issues.
  • Assist with worker orientation and training and supervise deficiency completion, final inspections and project close-out activities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction, Engineering, Architecture or a related field.
  • Post-graduate certificate in Construction Project Management or an equivalent construction/project management qualification.
  • Additional construction-related training and certifications are considered an asset.
  • 5–7 years of progressive construction experience, including site supervision and construction project responsibilities.
  • Strong experience in institutional construction and renovation projects, with school renovation and educational facility experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in occupied schools/institutional facilities, phased construction and restricted working environments is preferred.
  • Proven ability to supervise workers and construction activities across multiple active sites simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, materials, workmanship and site operations.
  • Excellent ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical construction drawings.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, communication, problem-solving, organizational and time-management skills.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, STAAD.Pro, Bluebeam Revu, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Autodesk Takeoff, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, and other construction/project management and document-control software.

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada and available for full-time, permanent employment.

  • Competitive salary: $72,500–$80,000 per year, based on experience.
