Full job description

Amazing Coffee. Amazing People. Summer Is Coming. So Is the Lineup.

The Beanery Cafe | Summerland, BC

The Beanery Cafe is hiring for our upcoming summer season — and beyond.

We’re a busy café in the heart of Summerland serving excellent coffee, breakfast, lunch, baking, and plenty of vegan and gluten-free options. We’re also the kind of place where regulars know our staff by name, tourists ask what to order, kids press their faces against the treat case, and someone always needs an iced latte immediately.

We’re looking for someone who can jump in, learn fast, care about the details, and take ownership of their role. One of our strongest team members is moving on in June, and another in September, so we’re not just looking for “summer help.” We’re looking for someone who wants to become a solid, trusted part of the team.

This position can be summer seasonal, but for the right person, there is an opportunity to stay on longer.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

You might be our person if you:

  • Like people — not in a fake customer-service-voice way, but actually
  • Can move quickly without making everything look like it was assembled during an earthquake
  • Notice when the counter needs wiping, the fridge needs stocking, or your teammate needs help
  • Can handle a busy rush without fully losing the plot
  • Care that the drink, plate, bagel, sandwich, or treat leaving the counter looks good
  • Are willing to learn drinks, food, till, menu knowledge, prep, cleaning, and possibly baking
  • Take feedback well and don’t need to be babysat forever
  • Show up on time, ready to work, with a decent attitude
  • Want to build real skills and actually get good at something

Experience in cafés, restaurants, baking, food service, or customer service is great. But we’ll train the right person if they have the right attitude, work ethic, and ability to learn.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

You’ll be trained across the café, including:

  • Taking orders and helping customers choose food and drinks
  • Making espresso drinks, iced drinks, teas, and seasonal drinks
  • Preparing and serving breakfast, lunch, baked goods, and grab-and-go items
  • Learning our menu, including vegan and gluten-free options
  • Keeping the café stocked, clean, organized, and moving
  • Helping with food prep, drink prep, and daily tasks
  • Supporting your team during the busy stretches
  • Learning baking or additional skills depending on training and interest

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN HERE:

This is not a stand-there-and-look-busy kind of job.

You’ll build actual useful skills, including:

  • Barista basics and drink consistency
  • Customer service that feels natural, not scripted
  • Food preparation and presentation
  • Menu and ingredient knowledge
  • Time management under pressure
  • Team communication
  • Cleanliness, organization, and food-safe habits
  • How to take ownership of a station
  • How a busy independent café actually runs

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • Competitive pay: wage + consistent tips
  • Part-time and full-time hours available
  • Summer seasonal work, with potential to stay on longer
  • Hands-on training across multiple stations
  • Staff perks
  • A strong team environment
  • The chance to learn coffee, food, customer service, and small business operations in a real, busy café

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The Beanery Cafe is located in Summerland, BC, in the Okanagan Interior.

Applicants must already be legally able to work in Canada. We are unable to sponsor applicants at this time.

Preference will be given to candidates already living in the Okanagan or those who have confirmed accommodation in the area for the summer.

TO APPLY:

Send us your resume and a short note telling us about yourself, your availability, and why you’d be a good fit.

Bonus points if you tell us your go-to coffee order.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent, Seasonal, Casual

Pay: $22.00-$30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 40 per week

Experience:

  • barista : 1 year (preferred)
