Responsibilities
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Facilitates the delivery of CMBC’s Recover at Work program services for primarily low intervention type cases, including early intervention and return to work planning, disability case management, and health and wellness promotion. Liaises with multiple stakeholders including employer, employees, union and third-party insurers (WSBC/ICBC/STD/IC). Provides team support by coordinating various programs, projects and initiatives within the Occupational Health Group. Provides project administration and acts as a key resource for Occupational Health Group (OHG) specific programs including analytics.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Provides support in the implementation and administration of CMBC’s Recover at Work program, projects, initiatives, and activities for employees with injuries and illnesses; develops and implements creative and early intervention rehab plans based on the specific function of the employee, while taking into consideration their role and departmental needs.
Leads the full cycle of the return to work process for low intervention cases from intake to return to work/termination, including early intervention and rehabilitation, graduated return to work and/or modified duties, and obtaining medical clearance as required for both occupational and non-occupational cases. Triages complex files to the Occupational Health Specialists as needed.
Ensures employees are fit and safe to return to work under the appropriate medical rules (CCMTA/Seafarers).
Liaises with internal and external stakeholders to determine RTW needs and assist in the development of RTW plans; reviews and interprets documents, including medical information, to ensure RTW plans are aligned and compatible with employee’s abilities. Coordinates, communicates and documents the stay at work and return to work plans and schedules.
Identifies and resolves logistical issues for stay at work and return to work schedules to ensure successful implementation and provides related status updates to stakeholders.
Educate and coach employees through the process by providing guidance on what needs to be done to ensure the greatest chance for recovery and return. Refers employees to appropriate community and/or medical resources as required.
Tracks, records, and maintains statistical information regarding the Recover at Work program and assist the analysts in producing monthly information as required for departmental reporting and appropriate steering committees.
Provides project and logistical support to the OHG and related committees such as the Rehab/RTW Committee, Accommodation Committee, Defuser Program etc. Ensure own assigned action items are completed, and committee documents are updated.
Ability to understand and apply WorkSafeBC and other 3rd party insurer contractual language and policy to disability management cases and ensure adherence to all relevant policies and procedures. Participate and support in legal proceedings as it relates to individual disability management cases.
Supports health and wellness programs by attending and providing relevant information at applicable fairs and events as needed.
Writes to medical providers in order to obtain medical information in order to support return to work and fitness for duty requirements.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
The requirement for this job is acquired through an undergraduate degree in health care or health education, including occupational therapy, kinesiology, physiotherapy, nursing or disability management, plus four (4) years disability management related experience in a unionized environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Designation or certification with a recognized allied health, nursing or disability management body is an asset.
Other Requirements:
Solid knowledge of the concepts, principles, practices and techniques pertaining to disability management.
Solid interpersonal and communication skills to communicate and influence implementation of CMBC’s Recover at Work program with employees, supervisors, managers, union officials and the OHG.
Solid organizational, planning and project management skills to provide coordination and logistical support within the context of specific timeframes.
Basic knowledge of collective agreements and other regulatory requirements.
Ability to work independently under minimal guidance and as well as with a team to collaborate and share information in disability management and to implement action plans.
Working knowledge of the relevant systems, such as Microsoft Office applications.
Discretion, judgement and ability to deal with highly confidential information, sensitive and/or emotional issues.
Familiarity with the Medical Guidelines for the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles is preferred.
Other Information
Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.
Work Schedule
37.5 hours per week.
This is a full-time temporary position for approximately 10 months

Rate of Pay
The salary for this position ranges from $71,360 - $107,040 per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills, and qualifications as they relate to the role.
